This topic is really frustrating for me. I had a 2006 FX withOUT Nav - you could program a pause by saying the word "pause."
I just picked up my 2009 WITH Nav. The bluetooth features are much less convenient. Apparently, a pause cannot be programmed. Like other posters here, that's affecting my ability to check my voicemail messages - from my cell, my office, etc.
I'm also unable to speak the word STAR, for the asterisk, although that can be programmed via the touchscreen.
Lastly, placing calls from the phonebook was actually easier without Nav, compared to with Nav. On my old car, I simply pressed the phone button, and stated "Call, Mary, office." On the new car, I need to say "dial number, phonebook, <wait for the phonebook to appear>, Mary"
The phone books with Nav are 25% the capacity of phonebooks with Nav. Without Nav, each of the 40 entries has a listing for Mobile, Home, office, other. With Nav, entering the home, cell and office numbers for one person, would use up three of the 40 phonebook entries.
