Inserting "Pause" into Phone Number Entry using Bluetooth system??

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

How do you keypunch "pause" onto a phonebook entry of the Bluetooth system?

The keypad on the touchscreen doesn't seem to have a key symbol for it. As a result, I'm unable to call voicemail, for example, without having to manually keypunch the rest of the numbers at every prompt...and only if I'm stopped, of course.

The number sequence was correctly imported from my cell phone, but the car's Bluetooth failed to execute the embedded pauses from the cell phone entry.

I know there is a setting to insert a pause I cannot tell you now as I have no access to the owners manual, nav supplement, or car. I will find one tomorrow and get an answer to you before noon, if no one else has the direct answer.

I cannot tell if it's the M,G or EX that has the insert pause function when selecting (while stopped, lol) the number in the phone book and when the options open on the right of the screen one of the options is insert pause.

I may be off on this but it is something similar to that.

I've tried to figure this one out myself but have been unable to do so...I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with.

BTW...there should be some easy way to disable that cumbersome and annoying "grey out" feature when the car is in motion!!!! It should be as easy as hitting "enter" after reading the Infiniti disclaimer when you turn on the engine.

I understand what you mean. Since legislation has finally started to catch up with technology. New laws require the "greying" out and inaccessibility to certain options while you are driving. I think it doesn't take into account that there are two seats in the front of the car and most people with common sense will not use these setting while on the road. Then again there are those people out there who cannot handle driving in general.

Thanks for the suggestion, but there is no comma field displayed on the numeric entry screen, just "*", "#", and "+". None of those works to insert a pause.

Hopefully, SteveTheTech will come up with a solution. Thanks again.

In the owner's manual page 4-101, under "SPEAKER ADAPTATION (SA) MODE", some of the training phrases contain "pause", like "eight pause nine three two pause seven". So maybe you can at least insert a pause using the voice recognition. If you dial a number using voice recognition and say "pause", I wonder what character appears on the screen?

Unfortunately, no success on inserting pauses while dialing using voice commands....system tried to insert numbers instead, even though I "trained" the system using alternative voice command setting.

Pretty much

I was thinking this was for connectivity from a blackberry-style phone or something. I stand corrected....

The "pause" is'nt afunction of the vehicle, its a function of the phone. I have a BBerry 8830 with a pause programmed in (I BELIEVE its a "P", I used 4 of them) that works perfectly in my EX... Check your phone instructions, should work fine once you program it...Just to be sure, I went to the garage before posting... yes, I need a life...

Thanks for the post and welcome to NICO

I don't use my G's built-in phone book with my 8330 but it's nice to know if I needed to put in pauses then it would work

Does the EX user interface allow you to enter a 'P' into the dialing string?

Just wondering,David

Steve:

Just curious...Have you come up with anything yet on inserting pauses into phonebook entries using the EX35 screen?

Thanks.

I'm real sorry about not getting back to you guys. I really need to organize my tasks a little better. I did try this a few times with a few phones I dropped the ball on completing the task.

I still have no conclusive answer for you at this time. I was hoping with some of the new software updates they would address some of these complaints. They are working on it. How long of a pause do you need to insert. I cannot add a pause on my cell phone (or at least not that I can find). I'll renew my quest for an answer and I will see if their are any newer (after the technical departments several week long break) they are now coming out with a bunch of new stuff for all type of electronic issues and many of them are loaded directly through the SD port using a Consult III.

Thanks for the welcomeI know this is the X35 forum but there is where I found the question. I am assuming all infinity phones are the same. I just traded my 2006 Jaguar Super 8 in on Friday for M35X. I needed AWD. So far so good. I have a couple of minor issues i.e. no power outlet in the center glove box because I have a DVD. I guess next weekend I’ll try to put one in.

I really do not think we are talking about the same thing. The pause insertion we are talking about would not pertain to an M they use a slightly different system. What year M did you get? and what are you trying to do?

If you have a DVD player you should have a 12V power socket and RCA inputs in the rear or the center console. There is a small button that will open the small door where this is hiding. Adding a 12V power socket should not be necessary there are several in the car already.

They all seem similar and one would assume that the technology would run throughout the line but they do not. The Gs and EXs are the same, the FX is pretty similar to the G and EX. The M is pretty much all alone with some of it's options and settings, the QX56 is slightly different from the others. I do not know why they are all slightly different but the basics are the same but the M is easier to use.

Should I ask this in the M forum?I have a 2009 M35X. I was trying to do what the original message asked. You need a pause to store and use the phone to automatically to call my answering service,Verizon. In order to call Verizon’s answering service you must dial the Verizon number and then wait or "pause" before putting in your email box number and pin. Most cell phones and car phones that I use have that ability.

ThanksJoe

This topic is really frustrating for me. I had a 2006 FX withOUT Nav - you could program a pause by saying the word "pause."

I just picked up my 2009 WITH Nav. The bluetooth features are much less convenient. Apparently, a pause cannot be programmed. Like other posters here, that's affecting my ability to check my voicemail messages - from my cell, my office, etc.

I'm also unable to speak the word STAR, for the asterisk, although that can be programmed via the touchscreen.

Lastly, placing calls from the phonebook was actually easier without Nav, compared to with Nav. On my old car, I simply pressed the phone button, and stated "Call, Mary, office." On the new car, I need to say "dial number, phonebook, <wait for the phonebook to appear>, Mary"

The phone books with Nav are 25% the capacity of phonebooks with Nav. Without Nav, each of the 40 entries has a listing for Mobile, Home, office, other. With Nav, entering the home, cell and office numbers for one person, would use up three of the 40 phonebook entries.

Looks like people with Audi's have similar problems.....

I found some information on a blackberry forum which said use a comma "," for pause or a "!" for a wait

This issue is really bothering me.

In my 2006 FX withOUT nav, I could program a pause using the verbal programming process. The 2006 FX had a horrible microphone system, however - many owners complained about this at my dealership.

My dealer assured me I would love the updated bluetooth system in my new 2009 FX WITH NAV

I cannot program a pause using verbal commands, or using the keypad. I also lost the ability to verbally dial a * (star/asterisk; * is programmable via the touchscreen.) Dialing a stored number via voice takes 2-3 times the verbal commands as the 2006. The 2006 phone book allowed 40 contacts - each with mobile, office, home and other - for a total of 160 entries. The 2009 with Nav allows 40 total numbers - so if you have one contact with a home, office and cell #, you'll use up 3 entries.

I've even tried tricking the system in believing I am programming an international number, which starts a different process, and apparently recognizes #, * but not pause.

DOES ANYONE KNOW - do numbers transfered from a phone via bluetooth - one number at a time, or downloading entire phonebook via bluetooth - transfer pauses programmed into the phone's addressbook? My 4-year old Razr is not supported for transfering numbers to the car via bluetooth (although the infiniti support page says individual entries can be transferred - another error!) I'm ready for a new phone, so I want to know if I should check on this feature.

Is an address book transferred via bluetooth limited to 40 entries?
