So one of my mom's friends asked me to design her a business card. Being that we are in music city she is a professional guitar player. A few questions and a few designs Ive made.
1.) She plays a Gibson Les Paul black beauty
2.) What exactly would you label the profession of a guitar player?
3.) C&C on cards design

Thanks. Would you call them a "professional guitarist"? I will make another of the second and post it back up

maybe take number 1 and make the headstock just a bit smaller, like the one with part of the neck

i'm not a professional by any means, but i'm more in favor of simple designs. i threw this together to show what i would think would be a cool card. i dont know the exact dimensions of a business card, but this is just a rough idea.

(ignore the border i did that just so the shape would show on this white forum page)

also i know nothing about printing costs, but if the card was clear i think that would really stand out among the rest. like some booking agent or something would have all these different guitarist's cards but the clear one stands out (and it might last longer vs. paper)

just my 2cents

my vote is for #1

Best design in the thread, hands down. As far as clear cards...don't. I've been in print & design for more than 15 years and only ever seen one clear card that looked good (Owens Corning). Kromekote is about as much as I would go on a card like that. Go with "too much card" and it looks like you're substituting style for substance.

I've found that people love to have a card to hand out but are rarely prepared to pay money for good design or quality print. In the end they look cheap by being cheap. :tisk: If a business card is going to be her only advertising it's got to be great not just good. A card with a QR code linked to a mobile optimised website with streaming music or download ready MP3s would be a good idea. QR generators can be found everywhere online and anyone likely to hire a guitarist on a whim probably carries a smartphone. Another (more expensive) would be a business card CD with music samples that she could hand out. Only problems is that you have to have a tray style CD to use them, can't just pop them in when you get to your car. For that reason the web card may be the better idea, but people tend not to throw away the cd business card...and that's exactly why you want a business card to begin with. ;)

i agree with the QR code that would open up a whole new level to a business card. "hi my business card has internet capabilities" (it would technically)

and it would fit well on a white background: like so
