My inner tie rod on the passenger's side needs replacing.. i've looked at the FSM, and it doesn't look like it would be particularly hard, but I was just wondering if there's anyone out there who's done it and could maybe give me some tips or pointers =). Any info is much appreciated.

Make sure you mark threads on lock-nut side of tie-rod so you don't have too worry about front end or thrust alignment. You can also count the number of turns it takes to get to the end of the threads. First remove nut that secures T.R. then take your T.R. fork removal too and place it between ball joint and structure and slapp the end of the tool with a hammer. If you don't have the proper tool you can rent one from AutoZone or buy one for $9.99. Please DO NOT hit the threaded T.R. end with hammer because you will damage threads. Installation is reverse!

Just did both outer TR ends ( I think we are talking about the same thing) this weekend. What PopPop says is accurate. I counted the # of turns - seemed easier than marking the position.

If the boots are looking sketchy or haven't been replaced recently, do them now- it will never be easier.

I used a "persuader" pipe on the handle of the pickle fork- sometimes the TR ends need more than a little persuading.Good luck,

Paul

PS: Be careful not to move the steering wheel back and forth too much while the engine is not running. Mine puked about a pint out of the reservoir when I over did it .
