I know this topic has been talked about before, but the one answer I could not find is whether or not removal of the inner tie rod from the steering rack has damaged any seals in the rack or caused any kind of leak. I have installed a new rack that came with the inner tie rod already attached. I had already purchased some Tien inner and outer tie rods before I realized I had to replace the rack and could not find a rack without the inner tie rods attached. So would it be wise to just purchase outer tie rods that will fit the stock inner tie rod and not take a chance on damaging the rack? The Tien outer rods will not fit stock inner tie rods.

I tried to use a little force to remove the inner tie rod from the rack and it is on there pretty tight. I believe they used Loc-Tite with no lock washer. So a significant amount of force and probably use of a hammer would be needed to remove the inner tie rods.

Thanks for any help

Just keep pushing. I jacked my car up about 2 feet, laid under it and pushed with all my might and was able to undo them with in 5min each.

Has anyone purchased a steering rack from Car Steering dot com? I purchased one, installed it fine, but can not get the inner tie rods off. I have used penetrating oil and used a closed end wrench to try and inscrew the inner tie rod but no luck. I beat the wrench with a hammer and even tried a pipe wrench and no luck. I can not find a lock washer or anything stopping the tie rod from screwing off. I did notice a hole in the rack piston going in at an angle, but it seemed to be behind the tie rod. SO I do not think ti is a set screw. I tried sticking a allen wrench in there but no luck.

I will probably just purchase some OEM tie rod ends and sell the Tien set.
