Ok, I need to replace a "snapped" inner tie rod. It pretty much broke in half. Detaching the the inner tie rod half from the outer tie rod was a no brainer. However, I am having a lot of problems trying to unscrew the other half of the inner tie rod. It has given me quite the headache. I consulted my FSM, and even looked on Napa's "All Data" system trying to find information regarding the dissasembly/repair procedure. I came up with nothing. I was actually quite suprised how little info there seemed to be about the tie rods on this car.

So, is there something locking the inner tie rod in place?Do I need to do something before I attempt to unscrew the inner tie rod (not from the outer rod, from the other side)?

I can't seem to unscrew it no matter what I do, and I would rather ask some Nissan heads about it instead of sitting underneath the car making myself look like a fool.

Pictures, diagrams, step by step instructions, anything would be helpful. I miss my beautiful 240, and this is the only issue keeping me from enjoying it at the moment.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Sean

yeah there's a lockplate where the inner tie rod meets the steering rack. if you search for "tie rod 240sx" you should start to see how people got those off and get a view of the job you're gonna be doing.

I did a search, and came up with some threads. Although, they just said there was a lockplate and that you need to remove first before you can unscrew the inner tie rod from the steering rack. I have looked and looked and looked. I don't see anything that can be undone, bent up, or anything resembling any sort of locking plate. Yet, I still can't seem to remove the inner tie rod. Does anyone have a closeup picture, or a diagram, or something explaining where this "lockplate" is? Maybe I just have some funky aftermarket tie rods, but I just don't see it.

yeah, the lockplate is right up against the rack where it meets up to the large bulbous part of the tie rod (the part that threads up against the rack).
