Hey Guys,

So had some steering wheel knock noise when you rock the steering wheel back and forth. Traced it to the driver
side inner tie rod. The reason for the post..anyone have a picture of of the rack and inner tie rod? also does anyone
know if a regular inner tie rod removal tool will work on the qx4/finder? I was doing some research and i read that
maximas have no flat spots to loosen or tighten the tie rod so i m a little worried this is going to be a bit more work.

In the pictures i see on part stores web sites it shows flat spots for a wrench for the qx4/finder.

Thanks

They do have a flat spot. Just don't do like me and forget to straighten the lock washer first... Once you have unbend the lock washer, I used a pipe wrench with no effort. This thing just unscrewed without issues. it's 2-3 hours job nothing complex or special tool needed.

I did tried to put back the new ones at the same length of the old one, but ended up having to do an alignment anyway.

Good wrenching.

To save an alignment!
With car front up wheels straight, measure from Centre of tie rod to the start of the internal threads on the shaft that the rod screw into or where the nut was.
Before unthreading the bad tie rod, clean the threads, where the threads meet the barrel wrap a piece of electrical tape, this will show you the dimension length.
Count the numbers of turns it takes to remove the tie rod. Bear in mind the nut takes up room so use the correct side of the nut as your point of reference.

Now you have: The overall length of the tie rod screwed in. the thread length in and out and the number of threads to put it back.

The new tie rod end may be an exact match or not, but with the amount of info you have you can replace to the exact position +- 1/2 a thread and an alignment is not needed because you are within tolerances.

Before replacing any thing on the front end do a measurement, thread count and /or mark things up with white paint or electrical tape to signify the side of the tape that is important

Thanks guys!

I needed a alignment anyway so i never used your advise but thanks anyway.
Everything was easy peasy except i had to remove the sway bar to get my wrench on there.
