I am deciding between the Injen Intake for the 2.5 (4cyl.) Altima or the K&N Replacement Filter.

The Injen is about $250-260 and the K&N air filter is $40 shipped.I am just looking to replace the stock air filter with something that is better, of course.

What are the benefits of each (intake vs. air filter) and which would you guys recommend? Thanks.

Of course I'm going to recommend the full intake, but the K&N is ok. I installed the drop-in when I first got my car because no intake was available. I did notice a very slight increase in throttle response, and I think I may have gained about +1 mpg with it. I'd suggest you just go with the INJEN because you'll probably end up wishing you got it in the first place.

K&N: Very inexpensive and it's just a drop in so no need for installation.

INJEN: Expensive but well worth it. It'll take about 30 minutes for installation. The increase in throttle response is noticeable and the sound it creates is amazing.

Thanks Eric. What are the mpg gains like on the Injen?

The main reason I'm leaning towards the K&N is because it's cheaper and I am not going for an excessive noise. I like the car to be as quiet as possible. My main goals are to save as much money as possible (on future air filters) and to gain as much mpg as possible. Not looking for any extra power or noise. In this case, do you think the K&N would be a better choice?

I have always thought that WAI intakes were for cars with larger engine displacement (3.0 liters+) so that the engine performance (and horsepower) could be coupled with the sound of the new intake. Not sure about smaller engines like my 2.5 liter.

Personally I didn't gain any MPG from the intake. The 2.5 probably won't be much different IMO.

With the points that you listed it sounds like a drop in filter would be sufficient for what your looking for.

I would probably get the Injen if I had a 3.5...to get that additional performance and nice sound. With a 2.5, I just don't see the point.

Nice. Seems like a logical for the 2.5, mainly because it pays for itself in the long term.

250 bucks...maybe 5hp...and a good reliable cleanable filter....but , more noise, good or bad depending on your in cabin tolerance...some like it some don'tStock airbox gone (easy install, its a good beginner project)

40 bucks maybe 1/3 hp and a good reliable cleanable filter..no noise difference, takes 10 seconds to change out

Thanks LinkNuc, you confirmed what I was thinking. I already ordered the K&N because I think it is ideal my needs. I am not looking for any more horsepower (170 is more than enough in LA traffic) and am not looking to add noise (I like the quiet). I am mainly concerned with saving money on air filters in the long run and mpg gains. I think the K&N is best for what I am looking for. I also see that many 2.5S owners turned to the K&N air filter rather than a WAI intake.
