My mechanic quoted me at 1 most likely 1.5 hours to install the Injen intake. Think he is trying to scam or just to do a perfect job? Because I read that it can be done in 30 mins.

Also, he said on many Z's he's seen the Check Engine light turn on after intake installed, due to different air/fuel ratios or something. If this happens on the A/C, is there an easy fix? He didn't recommend a fix.

thx!

1.5 hours at 80 bucks an hr? jeez .... i'm a noob and i did it myself, checking and double checking, took 45mins for actual install. Didn't see any check engine light. Make sure u disconnect the battery first and handle the MAF sensor carefully.

Yea install yourself would be 45 min tops. Do it yourself. You dont even have to be mechanically inclined to do it. Its real simple.

I agree with everyone that says do it yourself. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined but it was a very easy install. The only problem I had was bleeding like a stuck pig after I scraped my knuckle.

I think its unanimous pc.. we will officially flame you if you pay 100+ dollars for this install! lol... naww, just joking, but seriously, this isn't like the stereo install where you can seriously jack something up!

Maybe if you take pictures along the way, it'll help, if you change your mind half way into it... but I'll tell you, once I started doing my own installs., and saw how simple it was, I'd be dam*ed if I'm gonna pay someone to do something that I could do myself. Sometimes we can't do it all, but sometimes we can... this is one of those times... go for it homie, you'll thanks us in the end!

hmm ok I will consider it, I am the noob of noobs though w/ mechanical stuff.

I wouldn't void any warranty or whatnot considering that I am not a licensed mechanic, right?

Don't pay someone for 1.5 hours of labor when you can do it yourself in 20-30 minutes. Use this little write-up I did to help you along with the installation. zerothread?id=281295 Large color pics are always good. Good luck.

Your just basically unscrewing all the plastic air box crap and taking it out which is the hardest part after that the install instructions that the intake comes with is pretty detailed so you shouldn't have a problem! Mechanics are always looking for some way to jack you for some money.

PC- I think if you installed it yourself you will appreciate it more. (IMO) Also i think you'll get a great sense of satisfaction once its done and you know you did it yourself. (Also my opinion) And plus, it really isnt that hard. Just unscrew the screws that are in your way, REMEBER where they came from, and basically thats the hardest part. Everything else fits like a puzzle.

Viet- Find the screws and unscrew them! Pull till something comes out!thats how i woudl do it.

Another question for you do it yourselfers... Im planning to get the NISMO catback exhaust and would like to install it myself ( I dont like other people touching mystuff)l. I've installed my own motorcycle exhuast but thats b/c its easily accesible and i could reach into the bike. With the car, all i have is the emergency jack and a few other ones. The box on the other jacks clearly state that i shouldnt be under the car b/c they arent safe. Any other way of doing this? Is it even possible to do an exhuast while lying down?

use jackstands. never put yourself under a vehicle when it's only being held up by a jack. pep boys sells them pretty cheap

Wait, so with jackstands ill still have to be lying under the car?? Are they safe to go under the car?

hrmm.. Im assuming an exhuast will take me about 3-4 hours to do? Lying down for that long with breaks is guna be killer, but nonetheless fun.

Jack up the rear and place the jackstands underneath. Lower the jack onto the jackstands and keep the jack where it's at for extra security. I'm always under my car with jackstands so you won't have to worry about safety. Just don't forget to chock your front tires.
