It does protect it from the heat, but the filter is so far a way from the engine that it doesn't really matter much, I guess. Considering that the Fujita and Stillen intakes don't have a heat shield, I'd say its mostly for looks.

yeah I agree. I left me stock ram air part on so air still gets to the intake from the outside.

I took that off... cleans up the engine bay a lot.

i'm thinking it might help keep one side of the filter cleaner longer then I rotate it around once a while

Thanks for the info bro. Did you remove the stock ram air vent as well?

I left the one that is connected to the bumper, no reason to take it off, unless your going for pure aesthetics. Otherwise, all its doing is letting colder air into the engine, good things

I took mine off and promptly put it back on, It doesn't look very clean under there without something to cover it up, and like these guys are saying, I think it does add a little more fresh air into the engine bay.

With or without the "stock ram air vent", the air is still getting into the engine bay, but it just isn't being pointed toward the filter. If you go pop it off, you'll see its inlet (at least I can on my 2.5). For you 3.5ers, its not as big as on the 2.5. so it isn't as ugly.

i took mine off shortly after installing the injen. i think it looks better and it wasn't directed right at the filter so that was my reason for removing it and it was just flopping around in there.
