I got a check light with the idle rough and low…500 rpm….and it was bucking, so I knew it was an injector not sure which. I took it to Infiniti of Thousand Oaks and they want $1100 to replace #6. I don’t want to spend that kind of money right now.

I’ve already replaced #3 in June of 02, #8 Sept of 02, #4&1 in April of 03, and #2 in Nov of 03 all in that order at the dealer.

I spoke to Brian (the new owner) at Jerry Tucker’s and he told me that he would charge me 2 hours plus parts. $200 (labor) + $150 (aftermarket) I’m not sure why he suggested aftermarket. So I told him that I wanted OEM and he said $223 each.

Since I’ve already changed 5 of them I thought I might as well change the rest.

2 Questions.

1. Would you guys go for aftermarket? The 5 replaced ones are OEM so I think it’d be better to use OEM.2. Would you replace #5, 6, and 7?

Thanks in advance guys.

You might want to check to see what he means by "aftermarket" - what brand are we talking about? I am not really aware of an aftermarket injector... maybe a rebadged OEM part purchased in bulk?

What's Jerry Tucker doing now - did he retire?

According to what Wes told me, the only decent "aftermarket" option is a Deatschwerks injector. Other than that, it's best to go OEM.

D-fixing up to sell, or did you decide to keep her?

$200 labor is pretty cheap. Of course, they will just be raising the spider slightly to gain access to #6.

i'd definitely replace the other (last) 2, or at least have them moved to slots 1 and 2 so the plenum doesn't have to be pulled when those finally go.16600 67u10 is your part number. last time i bought some was in feb07, so 1 price increase since, i paid $167 each from IoS.

how many miles? have the knocks and all the underplenum hoses already been done? definitely more cost effective to do all at once....

Thanks for the replies,

I will find out tomorrow what aftermarket he's talking about.

Jay thanks for the tip. I'm thinking of keeping her. At least for another year or two. Gotta do something about that interior though.

if it were mine, I would just take the rail out and have it sent to deatschwerks. They will send you back 8 working injectors ready to rock and roll.

They always give me a very good price at Jerry's

I just talked to Joe and he'll charge me 169.24 for each including O rings.

145,750 K mileage wise. How much would the knocks and under plenum hoses set me back?

Thanks Wes. I wouldn't know how to take the rail out. As you know I'm not a DIYer.

Fairly obvioius after you remove plenum, fuel lines, retaing bolts, etc.

I used Deatschwerks also. Proabaly a "waste" but I know they are clean and in specification. NICO members get some extra tests and data for free.

More/less what I was suggesting is that Jerry Tucker remove the rail and send it to deatsch. you may be without the car for a week though, since it takes them a few days... im thinking you get the car in on a monday morning, injectors go out monday midday, then you get them back on friday and be out the door friday evening for happy hour.

You can find cheaper if you shop around, I think they are made by Japanese Bosch.

What do they do there and how much does it cost? I haven't done the under plenum job and it's on my longer term to do list. (Maybe next year.) I figured when I did I'd do KS and injectors. Who is deatschwerks and what do they do?

NO!

No Bosch injectors. That'll murder your Q. No experience with it, but that's the message I get from some more seasoned Q owners.

@ Dan,

Deatschwerks is a NICO sponsor. They have a link on the right usually. They specialize in high performance and racing injectors. You can either by injectors from them, or send in yours and have them professionally cleaned/tuned for maximim efficiency. Not too expensive. I think it was like at the most $32/injector for their service. (Assuming you provide the injectors.)

You're thinking of spark plugs which should be NGK. I believe only Bosch makes the injectors so it would be a little difficult to use anything else.

OEM Infiniti injectors aren't made by Bosch are they?

So you send this guy new injectors and he tunes them or your old injectors and he brings them back?

Nope, Just cleans and tests.

Can't bring old injectors back from the dead and can't "tune" new ones.

It might be better to check his site out Dan. There seems to be a differing of opinions here.

From what I gathered from the site, Deatschwerks specializes in high-performance injectors and can provide you with OEM spec injectors or better.

I'm going to take a look at the site again.

*Edit*

At $79/injector, they are not a bad option. 12 month warranty and these are Nissan Remans. Guaranteed OEM.

good to know that injectors were spared in the 01 April price increase.theres another thread recent on knocks and where to buy.must get harness from IoS, personal recommend to get ALL underplenum hoses there, too.if you do EVERYTHING, meaning heater hoses, and the secondary air hoses (the plasticky rubber ones) i'd guess about $550 in parts for the hoses and plenum gaskets, then add the knocks/harness+injectors. how are your valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, and O2 sensors? labor is greatly reduced to do those at same time as plenum.

is there any evidence that the deatsch serviced injectors have a life extension in the face of crappy California blend gas?

Maybe combined with regular bottles of ISO-HEET.

I don't have any experience with CA gas. I've only put NJ gas in the Q. 92 Octane.

My thoughts are to just go with the cheap Venom injectors sold on Ebay. They're sold in sets of 6 for the 300zx, but you can get a package of 8 instead. I've read some bad reviews about the Venom injectors, but most people find them to work just fine. $500 for 8 is sure better than $1360 for the set from Infiniti (at our discount price). I don't think it's worth getting cleaned injectors. Not worth the effort or money. It's the coil windings that die in them most often and it's just a matter of time before they fail (and fuel, don't use ethanol). So old cleaned injectors probably won't last long. If a new set of injectors lasts 150K miles, most of us won't change them to all new ones more than once. Not a bad deal.

There is a reason they sell those on Ebay. Those are just "remanufactured" injectors that are are advertised to make them sound new. Windings and pintles can't be repaired.

Joe quoted me 169.24 with O rings for both sides yesterday, so I forked over $514 (including shipping) and ordered the three remaining.

Good deal.

The good thing about injectors is that they don't have to be all purchased simultaneously. I bought 4 about a month and a half ago and only used 1. I still have 3 more as back ups.

that's if you don't mind pulling the intake. If you dread that job and don't want to keep pulling it off when an injector goes, all new is the ticket. You could get by fine leaving the front 2 as old ones if you want.

From what I have gathered from old posts - there are two Bosch companies, Bosch of Japan and Bosch of Germany. At some point one company split into two companies.

Apparently the quality differences are vast. My understanding is that the Nissan injectors (as well as most others) are made by outside vendors. I think the OEM injectors are from Bosch of Japan.
