Just wanted to let everyone know that my mechanic was able to remove injector # 3 on my engine without removing the intake manifold. I'd seen a post on this subject before and told him it was possible, and sure enough he did some grinding and managed to get to the sucker, pull it out and replace it with a remand one. The only downside was that he damaged the defective one yanking it out, so I lost out on the $11 core charge. Car runs like a top again though, and going this route saved me a major hunk of change.

Crap, I didn't specifically tell him to do that; guess I'd better follow-up with him. One thing that is happenimg now is that the car is pinging fairly heavily on aggressive throttle imputs. This car has NEVER pinged before. On the other hand, the car has noticably more grunt than it has ever had before either, which (obviously) indicates that this particular injector was never running optimally even before it finally went MIA). This is a '93 vehicle with just over 100k on, and always filled with Premium.

Will the ECU eventually adjust the air-fuel ratio on its own, or can I help it along in any way (my son's '98 Civic's ecu must be disconnected from power for an hour after bolting on performance enhancing parts).

Or, since the mechanic flushed the entire injector system before giving up and pulling #3, is it possible that an O2 sensor has gone squirrly (though normally they just go rich, not lean in my experience).

its the ethanol in the fuel eating away at the injector.
