93 ka24de was having some misfire issues, pulled injectors to get them tested, when I put them back in, engine was flooded (because I'm an idiot). Starter cranked then sorta popped and stopped cranking. Was able to get car to start and run (very badly) by turning engine by hand with plugs out to evacuate fuel then crank with some throttle. The engine running badly after starting seems to be due to an O ring on one of my injectors that failed and I didn't notice it before. What are the chances that the pop while cranking was hydrolock, and if so, what are the chances I threw a rod? When the engine did run it had a massive lack of power and wouldnt idle, but I only revved it to about 1500 then shut it down. It also did not sound like rod knock while the engine was running for about the 10 seconds before I shut it off. I will go rent some compression testing equipment tomorrow to confirm, but if I was able to get the engine to run with no knocking AND the thing that I THINK was hydrolock was only during cranking, did I dodge a bullet? Just trying to ease my nerves a bit!

Hydro during cranking is usually survivable. It's when it happens at speed that it's almost always catastrophic.

Okay, now that I've calmed down and done some more looking, the engine turns normally with a socket on the crank pulley even with plugs in (but injectors out). Also, pop isnt really the right word to describe the sound, it was more like when I turned the key the starter sounded like it "turned" twice, as in went through 2 compression cycles then on the 3rd it stopped cranking with a slightly louder "crank" sound. A few hand cranks with plugs out and starting it with open throttle was enough to get the engine to run after that, but only ran it for a few seconds.

Updates? How'd the compression look?
