Hi,

I have a 1989 240SX (California model). The computer keeps giving me an injector leak code (45). I have replaced the injectors twice, replaced the fuel filter and all flexible lines as well as the O2 sensor and spark plugs. The car runs great. The mileage is good. There are no indication of leaks at the injectors. I now suspect that the problem is in the sensing system. As there is no fuel pressure sensor, does anyone know what information the computer uses to determine that the injectors are "leaking?"

One final piece of information, the car was build right at the change over of injectors. There are two types of injectors you can buy. One is "orange dot" for all four cylinders and one is "blue/black dot" one color for 1/4 and the other for 2/3. The dealer could not tell me the correct injectors even with the VIN but said if all four are replaced it did not matter. Anyway I used "orange dot" and don't know if this could be part of the problem. Does anyone know the difference? Could the computer be matched to the color of the injectors?

I am out of ideas and injector sets are not cheap-- PLEASE HELP.

ThanksCharlie

The injector leak code real means the ecu sensed the engine was richer than it should be under certain conditions [the most likely cause was thought to be a leaking injector] so thats what they named it...........back then!

If the ecu needed to adjust the average fuel more than 15% downwards from the preprogrammed numbers. Usually sluggish slow switching O2, high fuel pressure, or leaky injectors, or a misfire.

check your fuel pressure reg and its vaccum source.

Thanks Guys! I will look at the fuel regulator vacuum supply.

I actually agree with the IIABDF reply but this is California and the Terminator will terminate my registration if I don't pass smog. A check engine light is an immediate fail. So it is broke if the light comes on even if it ain't really.

Thanks again for all the replies.Charlie

Guess I need more help.

Ok I checked the FPR vacuum and it seems to be working correctly. I tried running in mode I and II diagnostic modes of the computer. In mode I the green light flashes which is supposed to indicate correct operation of the O2 sensor. In mode 2 the green flashes as it should but the red does not. THe red flashes occasionally but according to my book it is supposed to flash in sync with the green. This is supposed to indicate a rich condition. The book just says to check or adjust the mixture control components. Well how would one do this?

I begin to suspect that this particular car should have the Blue/Black dot injectors and that the difference in injectors might cause this as the computer is mismatched to the injectors. Does anyone know if this is possible?

How does the computer control the mixture? Does it reduce fuel pressure or change injector pulse widths or both or perhaps control air somehow. Does anyone know?

Anyway it would seem that the engine is running rich. This seems to agree with last smog check that was in limits but high on hydrocarbons relative to averages. It was however within the limits and it runs really well.

Please help all ideas appreciated.

ThanksCharlie
