Hi I am new to this site and need some information from experienced mechanics.Recently my sons 1994 Q45 began running rough. I brought it home from his school, about a 40 mile drive. After combing this site I was able to find an open ohm reading on injector two. I ordered a beck arnley rebuilt injector. Initially it leaked from the top. I reseated the injector and it quit leaking from the top. However, it continued to run rough and began spewing blueish smoke from the exhaust. I ran it for about ten miles and it did not get better. I removed the injector and discovered that the lower o-ring was distorted, sort of smashed and ripped.I imagine I was dumping a lot of fuel into the cylinder. My questions are 1) could I have ruined the cylinder in the amount of miles I ran it with the gas washing through it and 2)how do you properly align the injector for installation?

... welcome to NICO! Hope we can help. I'm hardly and experienced mechanic, but I relish the opportunity to offer up some basic opinions before the real experts get here.

I'm assuming you tested all 8... can you post up the readings you got from each. And, could you post up results from all 8 as they are today? This may help going forward.

Quote »I ordered a beck arnley rebuilt injector.
I think you are going to get mixed reviews on this decision. Seems like most of the experts recommend buying new OEM injectors upon injector failure. Personally, I have no problem with reconditioned... but, I need to know it is coming from a great source. I've had very good luck with Deatschwerks (NICO sponsor)

Quote »I removed the injector and discovered that the lower o-ring was distorted, sort of smashed and ripped.
This is, apparently, a very easy mistake to make. Lots of warnings from the experts regarding possible issues from incorrect installation. Personally, I avoided this issue with mine by sending the whole fuel rail to Deatschwerks and having them test, recondition, replace the injectors. They reinstalled them in the fuel rail for me, and sent it all back intact. This will help you avoid most of the installation issues.

Quote »I imagine I was dumping a lot of fuel into the cylinder. My questions are 1) could I have ruined the cylinder in the amount of miles I ran it with the gas washing through it
Could you have done damage? Yes. Flooding the cylinder could cause you to bend a rod... I think. I'll leave this answer, and some recommendations to find out whether any damage was done, to the experts.

Quote »and 2)how do you properly align the injector for installation?
Send it to Deatschwerks and have them do it for you!

Thanks for the quick response. The number two injector read infinite ohms, just like when you have the test leads seperated on the digital multimeter. The rest of them and the new one read 11.5 ohms.

Oh by the way I did contact Deatschwerks, but he said he did not have one in stock and he could not fix one with a bad coil.

Rebuilt means used. Injectors are a wear item and should only be replaced with new OEM from http://www.infinitipartsusa.com

One should vary from OEM only when one knows for a certainty that the part will work as well as almost all 3rd party parts do not meet OEM standards.

Read and you will learn. Welcome to the knowledge warehouse for the Q45.

Hopefully the B/A injector will work for you. Good luck!

The key is just to lube it really good.... and you cant twist and push, you just push.

i dont think you've done any permanent damage, if you hydrolocked the car causing a bent rod your motor wouldnt run so if anything when the engine starts to age more you'll see less compression on that cylinder. Still, i wouldnt worry too much.

Thank you for the encouragement Wes, it gave me the confidence to try again. I did as you said, push no twist, with plenty of grease on the o-rings and the miss is gone. I was lucky I had the old injectors o-ring to replace the one i ripped.Wes you again were right, there appears to be no major problem as a result of the fuel dump. My oil was pretty thin but it has been changed. Thanks againWes,I will be rooting for your Colts on Sunday.
