Local dealer does not seem to know, but does a fuel injector for a 1995Q fit a 1990 or 1991 Q?? Thanks.

I'm not sure about that... what's different on the later ones?

Might check with Joe on that one, just to make sure...

The 90-93 have a single pintlehole [cone shaped spray] the 94-96 have 4 spray holes [4 streams] to fit the newer designed lower runner head port shape.Idle and low rpm cruise is very very sensitive to fuel flow shape as any fuel that hits the metal sides may not stay in air stream and just puddle up........especially in cold weather.

Had 2 injectors out of spec (17 ohms, and 240 ohms) on my 1990 when it triggered the check engine light.

Embarassed to admit but 3 weeks ago I bought 7 injectors from a 1995 Q45 on Ebay from someone who said the 1995 will work in the 1990. The newly bought injectors were cleaned/reconditioned and checked by a local injector guy who found: i) resistance for all 7 was uniform at 12.8 ohms, ii) the pintle spray is a single hole, and iii) the spray pattern is cone shaped.

After re-conditiong/cleaning they all spray a nice cone shaped pattern (@35PSI) within 2% volume of each other. They were roughly 22% out of balance before. The injector guy swears they can be used in the 1990 as the fuel flow is identical, electronics are good, and the physical qualities of the injectors are identical. They are tan, whereas the old injectors were green.

Since I have the plenum off, and don't want to do this again, can the tan ones that are supposedly from the 95Q be installed into a 90Q?? All green ones can be pulled therefore replacement will be uniform/albeit different.

If not, I can just go to the boneyard a a find 2 green ones, in which case will shortly be selling 7 tan injectors on the parts board!! Help Dennis if you are reading. A good mocking is probably in order too for buying something that may not work as represented.

Doug, if you're new injectors are single hole, than that guy had the wrong injectors in his 95.

Fred..:)

PS: The current production single hole 90-93 injectors are the purple tops, which fit all years of 90-93's I believe. But other colors may fit your car also.I think my old 91 injectors might have been tan.

Probably at WOT and high rpms both would work fairly equally but at idle and cruise there may be problems in fuel distribution..........who knows.

At idle the injectors is not energized long enough to fully open, spray at spec, and close in the allotted 2.0-2.2 millisecs with 34 psi [12% less].......almost 1.1 millisecs is consummed getting the pintle lift.............generall rule of thumb.......0.66x [millisecs] or 1.2 millisecs of flow x 0.88 or 1.05 millisecs of flow.......370cc/min= 6.166666 cc per sec/952=0.00065 cc per open............not even a drop.

For a fuel injected car to idle [WELL] is a miracle with the correct injector much less a different one.

Q45tech,

Dont you think, he guy he had the injectors from, had the wrong ones for a 95 (single pintle), and therefore they fit for his first gen?

Fred...:)

They all [90-96] are the same physical size only the bottom tip is different.Four cone streams vs one cone stream really a subtle difference IF the homogeny of the fuel/air is achieved.

The whole trick is to direct the fuel so that little of it hits the aluminum walls where it will condense and drop out of supension at low air velocities [low rpms].

More modern designs place [for emissions] the injector tips closer to the valves [some screw into heads] not 4-5" as in the Q becauase you have to take into account the extra travel time of fuel but surely not as bad as the old carbs or TB injectors.

For WOT high rpm it doesn't matter becuase things are excessively rich anyway.

Gonna go the safe route on this one and find the purple or green ones, and have them cleaned and reconditioned. Now I understand why they call it the occtopus!!

Q45Tech, are the Q45 injectors 370cc's? We are looking to use a set in our KA-T?

ThanksEric

Yes 90-96 are 370cc, just like the TT 300zx..........the oem replacemnts have a light purple top..........some orginal 90-91 builds had the tan color...........the purples are supposed to be more resistant to non conventional gasoline additives.

So can you use the 90-93 injectors and just buy the plastic tips for a newer one? Then it would be the same thing right?

No... the tips aren't removable. I think the 94+ were a different spray pattern and design (pintile-less).

Not the part that the pintle is in, the plastic cap that goes over it, the plastic cap that breaks really easy. But if the newer ones aren't a pintle design then they should be ball & disk so that wouldn't work anyway.:(

Since fuel starvation is more of a problem with turbos, I would buy new or change the rails to something more common: top feed instead of side feed.

Then again the injectors have a long life if exposed to conventional gasoline, its the West Coast and large northern city blends that kill them.............a Southern junk yard might be safer.

I am looking to establish ALL of the differences between the first generation and second generation VH45DE, to establish which parts are interchangeable (or not).

Is there anything other than

- head design- Valves (due to head design)- runner length- type of injectors- position of crank angle sensor- wiring harness

Regards

AGM
