Whats up!

I was ohming my injectors, they're all within 10-14 ohms except injector # 6. It seems within range and possible to change w/out removing plenum. Am I right? Has anyone tried it this way??

thanks

unless you've done ALL the rubber under the plenum and the ks, it's time anyway.last time i went under i changed the original 3&4 even though in spec (as well as #5 which was ~18ohm) just so i wouldn't be going back under for some time. 6,7,and 8 had been previously done in last 15k.cost effective in the long run.

buy VERY costly in the short, your going to need a bunch of new hoses and gaskets, buy everything ahead of time or your car will be out of action for a long time as you wait for parts on the slowboat

How would I know what kind of hoses I'd need? I mean I can't afford to purchase the kit from Joe at this time. Any alternatives?I have a pair of new KSs, so that would be part of the plan. As far as gaskets, I know IAC and TB need a new gasket. Anything else? are the gaskets dealer items or any local auto parts would carry them? How about hoses? how would I know which ones to get and how long etc...??

thanks

Gaskets, you need a new gasket for anything you plan to remove. This means plenum gaskets (all 8), you also may want to consider new FI gaskets (go in the lower intake manifolds). If you remove the lower intake manifold (maybe a good idea, I seem to be the only one to recommend this if your replacing a FI and/or KS) you need the metal crimp seal things that go with that. As for hoses its a case by case basic, Joe's kit doesn't even include everything it *should*, if you only had his kit you would end up SOL with one or two hoses you still needed

Go to the dealer, ask them to print out ALL of the hose diagrams (EGR, Water hoses, etc). You will end up breaking plenty in the removal, simply circle or highlight what you dont have prepared already and tell them to order it in, 1-5 days later they should all arrive ready to pop in. You *could* order them from Joe, but it could take more then the 1-5 days. Not ALL hoses have to be replaced, but it is a pretty good idea. What happens is they get VERY hard and brittle, snap with ease, and just dont seal well after they expand over the years. It is actually pretty surprisingly expensive to get new hoses and gaskets, they all have bends that are just over non OEM tolerance, so you have to get the real Infiniti hoses or the hose crimps and you might as well not have even put hoses on at that point (OEM hoses, some have aluminum or other metal on the inside to shape them, those are the ones that you could never improvise, some other hoses you could... but its difficult and iffy)

Thanks for your time and suggestions. I'll get the printout from the dealer for all the parts. I still need to get an injector before starting the job. I do a spare car, so the car can sit if necessary for a few days.

One last question, are all the gaskets mentioned dealer only? Or can it purchased from a normal auto parts store?

well for the gaskets you can get non oem parts at an auto zone or something. The ones they have are fine for some parts but I recommend you get OEM for the Plenum Gaskets (Upper intake manifold) and if you are going to (I guess most dont) Lower Intake Manifold (The gaskets the FI seal into) or you may end up with some pretty big air leaks

Anything from Joe will be at a better price, if you can afford to let the car sit for a week tear that baby off and every time you break a hose mark it on the sheets, I have never tried this... but you might be able to just fax or email a copy of your highlighted sheets to him and see if he will order them up for you, if not your going to have to do it yourself or over the phone

You can save maybe 40%+ by going through joe if you only pay for shipping once

Q45.org has THE best writeup of under plenum work

The reason I suggest removing the lower intake manifolds (you need two new gaskets, they are long metal ones with 8 holes each in them) is because if you pull them out (just unbolt the fuel rail - then use your 10 or 12mm socket on a 3/8 or larger drive to remove the bolts on the LIM - they are put in pretty tight) it makes it a HELL of a lot easier to remove the coolant jackets (they are above the KS and a real PITA!) and then reattach them when you are done, making sure to apply excess RTV, and it wont even make a mess because you dont have to angle your **** funny. Really it should be run by somebody like Wes or Q45Tech as they have arguably the most experience in this sort of thing - but I think they might agree. Plus you can really clean those lower intake manifolds, usually they look worse then the plenum/tb why go half *** and only clean part of the problem when its like 16 bolts from doing double or more the good. Next time one of you guys goes for a KS replacement maybe try this and tell me if it works out better or worse for you
