We had a chance to strap our Nissan 370Z down briefly for some baseline numbers. On our dyno dynamics 'heart breaker' it produced 258whp completely stock. Stay tuned for future developments.

you know what this really means?

a 370z can't stand up to the 135i or the 335i from BMW even on a straight line... kinda disappointing since the 350z couldn't but that was a 2003-designed car vs. a 2007-designed car... but the 370z should've had more power to the wheels.

I guess Nissan were using the engines they had "available"... damn credit crunch. BMW/Audi/Mercedes design a new engine with almost every new model...

Click the link to the blog and you will see other numbers from our dyno include:

2003 Nonrevup 350Z: 215whp2006 Revup 350z: 234whp2009 VQ35HR 370Z: 258whp

We normally see 12.5% gain in hp number going from our dyno to a Dynojet. 258 * 1.125 = 290whp. We use dyno dynamics for its consistency and better ability to tune compared to Dynojet. It is definitely a 'heart breaker' though thanks to the numbers it puts out.

Impressive Torque curve, but pathetic HP.

My 6mt G35 with light mods put down 273 on a dyno dynamics. Which means that my G is faster than a stock 370Z

how many miles on the car before you strapped it down?those numbers do seem a bit low for a claimed 330bhp

do you have any numbers for the VQ35HR? I know the one above is a typo and you meant to put VQ37HR for the 370Z. I guess the dyno is adding up to around 65-70hp loss at the wheels.

2003 215whp from the 280 at the crank2006 revup 234whp from the 300 at the crank2007 VQ35HR ???whp...has 306 at the crank2009 VQ37HR 258whp from the 332 at the crank

...sounds about right, just curious how the VQ35HR stacks up against the VQ37HR.

thanks for the post.

whats the weight to HP ratio though? it may still be faster, and with me driving VS. you...

273? must be them ground wires tricking the dyno!

12.86 lbs/hp -My G12.68 lbs/hp - 370Z

Forgive me, the Z has a 2.88 oz per HP lead on me.

I'm curious if the new Z will have as many mods as the VQ35DE had. After speaking with UpRev, I have a feeling that the VQXXHRs will have a hard time making more power with basic I/H/E.

my S30 has 7lbs per hp, I hope to improve upon that, my Z32 should be around 8.3 lbs per hp if I can ever get it running again

The G37 did dyno at 275 on the dynojet. i would think the 290 estimate is about 10 to 15 to high on a dynojet but I m sure we will be finding out soon but the estimate is high because at 12.5 percent the revUps would be around 265 on the dynojet when in reality it dynos around 250.

Guys,In the end, does it really matter?330 crank hp will always be around 264whp, with 20% drivetrain loss. The 258whp number is damn close to that. Very few results should beat the 264whp number, simply based on break in procedures. It's not like this should be a surprise to anyone.I don't know what you are getting at when you mention your numbers being lower by 12.5% compared to other dynos. At the end of the day, it's not the number that matters. It's the actual power. And if Nissan made the mathematically and well calculated power at the crank to be 330hp, then being realistic, with the 20% drivetrain loss being in the 260whp area is GOOD. It's the benchmark.Stop trying to squeeze out more out of that. It is what it is.

Ok yes some might be disappointed in the number its laying down but i was a semi proud owner of a 04' 350z and after getting to drive the new 370z i really like it. You can definitely feel the more power increase, but wish they should of got a little more out of it!

But thanks nissan for making these great cars!
