Hey guys. My dealer just sent me a letter letting me know that Nissan recommends to change the oil every 6k or 3 months. In it they invited me to have an initial new car service at around 1600km (break in period). This entails an oil and filter change and a recheck of the pre-delivery inspection. They say there is no charge for the labour.

Just wondering if anyone has done this to there Versa and is it worth doing or should I just wait until 6000km for the first oil change?

If it is 100% free, do it.

At my dealer it was free. I think they called it the 30day inspection, eventhough it was like two and a half months after I bought it.

Mine has a service checkup after 30 days. I don't know if they change the oil, but they check everything to make sure that nothing is wrong. They also wash the car and top off fluids

My dealer made no mention of any suggested or recommended service/visit before the first regular 3,750 mile Oil & FIlter change. That said, I was back at to the dealer for it's first oil change 6 weeks after purchasing the car. Brought in my own synthetic oil & filter and they charged me less than $10 to perform their Oil Change Service.

Some do it as a way to introduce you to their service department in hopes of keeping you a reggular service customer. It is great PR for most of the better dealers.

The "inspection" portion of this first service is the "free" part. At least that is what it was for me.

I was charged for the oil & filter (plus labor). With that said, it was only like $24 for the oil change. For my area that is a competitive price for an oil change if I had gone anywhere else. Considering that you'll get a tech to look your vehicle over that may actually know what he is looking at, I felt this was a bargan.

I will maintain a (roughly) 3000 mile interval for my oil changes unless I switch to pure synthetic oil. My dealership uses a blend of synthetic and dino lubes.

For me, spending $25 (or less) every three months (or so) is a mild cost to keep my V in top-notch shape. My wife and I keep our cars an average of 6 years and expect our odometers to have 160k miles or more logged before our next purchase.

Good luck with your V.

thats wierd. my dealer doesn't seem like its that 'BIG' but they sure as heck got me wanting to go back for more. the inspection was a free "coupon' that I got in the mail. it was for a 30day inspection and the first maintenance scheduled. they sent me another, not sure why, but I am definately gonna use it again.
