A little more than a week ago I posted about a sudden no-start condition in my '94 Q45 with 113,000 miles. The common wisdom here on the forum was that it was most likely the starter relay, and/or the starter itself. Over the past week the car started normally every time I tried. I decided that an intermittently failing starter relay was the most likely culprit and I ordered a new relay from Scottsdale Infiniti. It finally arrived and I installed it yesterday along with cleaning up and checking the wiring integrity at the starter itself. After two successful starts the no-start condition returned. I poked around to make sure that all wiring was properly attached, and then I tried moving the shift lever from park to neutral and back several times while holding the key in the "start" position. The car started!! Drove it home and pulled out the FSM to check out the scoop on the neutral safety start switch (aka inhibitor switch). It appears to be more or less like most other similar switches I have seen on other makes of cars.
My questions are: How frequently do these things fail on a Q45? Is alignment/adjustment of the switch a commonly needed repair? Is there anything particularly unusual or unique about the Infiniti version of these switches?
Thanks in advance again for any insight into these questions.
