Hi this is my first time posting here actually posting for my buddies 99' Maxima. His car had a check engine light on so he brought the car to a mechanic and they tested the car and found that the #4 ignition coil is bad as well as the plug. Anways I have replaced these many times on my honda s2000 and told him I would save him some money and do the work. I already found an ok deal on the coil and plugs. I just want to make sure that if its the #4 coil that needs replacement that its the one in the front center (on the radiator side) or if anyone has a diagram of this. Also does anyone know the tourqe specs for the plugs im guessing 22lbs. Thanks in advance.

FIRST....Nissan calls for all coil packs to be replaced if one is throwing a code $$$.

Yup I am aware that he "should" be replacing all the ignition coils but he's cheap and drives the car like my grandmother drives her 92 Lincoln. And by the way is 100 bucks for a coil a bad price, I know I can get em cheaper online but we need them today. I found duralast coils for $75 at autozone but for the 25 bucks why not go with OEM. Oh yea forgot to ask, the front bank is the easy side to deal with right? I think for the rear you need to take off the intake manifold and some vaccum hoses... right?

LOL...grandmothers 92 Lincoln

i like going with OEM as much as i can, but if he's cheap i'd just get the ones from autozone. I got one of mine from autozone and all the rest from the Dealer, and i've had no problems with the cheaper one 100 doesn't sound too bad

I replaced one on my 95 Max from Autozone and it did fine. Back bank right cylinder. Front is a little easier. In all about a 20 minute job. Shop wanted to replace all coils. I said no due to cost. I think they couldn't find which coil was bad.

Spark plug should be 20 Ft LBS. See if you can download the Index FSM file for the Max on this site. Look under SEARCH top left of page.

Autozone pulled the codes on my daughter's 00 Max and it was the #4 cylinder.Bought a plug and coil pack. Tried the new plug - didn't fire. So, replaced the coil pack. Didn't replace the othersThis was at 70K miles.

Thanks for the help guys did the job last night, took me 20 minutes very easy. The car drives perfect now no missfires. I guessed at the torque specs for the the plugs and went with 19lbs so looks like I got close enough. I'm just glad it wasn't a one of the rear coils becuase it looked annoying to get those one out.
