Hey Guys, I decided to do this write up for some of you that may need brake work done on your J-30 and some tips to make it less stressful on you and your wallet. First thing is DO NOT GO TO Meineke or any other franchise such as that because all they will do is try to rip you off. I took my J to there and the end result was that i needed new

Rotors (rear)Brake pads (rear)Brake Hoses (rear)Calipers (rear)

While i did see this for myself and it was true the price to replace all of these was absolutely bullsh**

800.00 and that was just for the rear, The parts alone were about 600.00. Now my advice that i have learned especially with this car is that these places will always charge you out the a** for parts.

I was determined to do this for less especially when i didnt have 800.00 to do the work. I suggest you look on ebay as i did and go to places like NAPA This is where i got all of my parts from heres the comparison:

Meinikee Brake Rotors (1) 80.00 x2 Brake Pads 40.00(semi metal) Calipers 160.00 x2 Brake Hose 40.00 x2 Final price is 600.00

NAPABrake Rotors (1) 32.99 x2Brake Pads Ceramic 42.99Calipers (from ebay) 46.00 for both remanufactured.Brake hose 19.00 x 2 Final price is 203.00 or we'll just say 200.00

so basically i saved 400.00 i was lucky enough to get both rear rotors that were reman off of ebay for 46.00 altogether, super cheap!!!i paid 200.00 for all my parts and im going to take it to my mechanic where he is going to charge me about 2.5 hours labor so about 200.00 bucks also

So the end result is 400.00 instead of 800.00 life is a beautiful thing lol.So i say before you pay all that money, get the parts cheaper and go to a mechanic who you can trust who will put those parts on for you As soon as these parts are installed i'll let you guys know how they work.

Look around guys and dont be discouraged it takes some time to find parts sometimes but you can always get them cheaper!! Hope this helps you guys out

Yup ..And please note they have rebuild kits for the calipers as well.Much cheaper than replacing the whole caliper.and replacing all that stuff yourself is a snap.

I rebuilt all 8 calipers on both Js for under $50.00 and about 1 hour per.The rotors were still in limits so I had them turned at Napa 10 ea for the frontsI did not pull the backs. New Ceramic Akebonos on both cars total $185.

Both Cars completed for under $300.00

Ceramic Akebonos are excellent. I run them on the Saab.

What are the advantages of running ceramic pads? I know less black brake dust but what other advantages would you see in everyday driving?

It is said that ceramic brake pads have better stopping power. The Ceramic brake pads produce brake dust but it is not black like it is for semi- metallic this is why people who have rims or sports rims appreciate these pads ( cant see the dust as much )

The added benefit of using ceramic brake pads is that they do not produce that annoying squeal that semi metallic brakes produce.

Ceramic have copper fiber shavings which produce a light squeal but it is not audible to the human ears while semi metallic produces a high squeal which is audible to the ears (number one consumer complaint about brakes: noise).

So overall using ceramic brake pads gives you better stopping power, no brake noise and brake dust that is not black and nasty looking to the eye.

Give it a try, they are worth the extra 6 dollars or something think

Hope I don't have to worry about all of that. It's bad enough I have to replace all four rotors, all four ball joints, and all four brake pads as well as the parking drums.

napa sells the rotors for 32.99 each, so far they have worked fine on mine ( had it on for about 2 weeks i think) But you can save tons of money if you put the rotors on yourself, it is very, very easy and i myself tend to make things complicated lol.
