There is really no rhyme or reason for this thread, but I think it would be a nice change of pace from the normal and boring noob questions.

After studying some O-Chem II, my brain is fried so I thought I would just share just some general info that may be of interest to some people.

Gas mileage- it helps to drive the speed limit! lol

I went for a drive a few days ago to a state park to hit some curvy roads and relax. It's about 40 miles of highway driving to the location and I thought I would see how good of a MPG avg I could get by just driving the speed limit. (65mph) There were also plenty of hills involved so it's not like I was coasting the whole way.

I reset the computer before i left. After about 35-40 minutes of driving 63mph-65mph this was my average with a few stops on the way...

I was really impressed because I've never had that high of an avg before and for such an extended period of time. I attribute part of it to my more free flowing system (intake, exhaust, y-pipe, royal purple), but it's driving the speed limit that really takes advantage of all the performance bolt-ons that free up the airways and reduce friction.

and another bit of info that I though hasn't been talked about or shown too much recently is HID cut-off in the non-projection headlights.

I was waiting for my wife to grab something out of her moms house and decided to snap a pic of my HID cut-off for those who are interested. I have the DDM 6000k HID kit. I rarely get flashed, and when i do it's usually when I coming over the crest of a hill. I could probably raise them a bit, but it's such a pita to reach the adjustment knob that I don't want to mess with it.

anyway, just thought I would make a thread that brings a little more to the table then just asking for opinions on 22" chrome wheels :nono:

later guys :dblthumb:

Not bad man. The best I have done was a 35.6mpg avg in my 2.5 while cruising to Vegas. (4 hour trip)

When you guys calculate you average economy are you fully relying on the computer AVG ECON???? I never trusted that for an accurate reading. I have always started with a full tank reset the trip odometer then drive a distance, use maybe 1/2 or close to full tank, then fill up. Took the overall miles driven on trip OD and divided by the amount of gallons pumped at the station. The result is your avg econ.

No I was just wanting the know my highway mileage, not the mixed avg. Grant it the 30.3 is still an avg, but I just haven't averaged that good before.

it's totally possible man, I drove 130 mile round trip yesterday. I went 60-65mph about 80% of the time and about 75mph the other 20% of the time. Divided about 70/30 (highway/city).

This was my avg.

note*- AEM intake, Y-pipe, Nismo exhaust, 19" wheels, 1 extra passenger, 60lbs of tools in the trunk.

If you let your car coast a lot and never ever stop, 30+mpg is cake with the VQ. Set your cruise control when you're not in traffic with variable speeds, and mellow out.

Last night, I decided to have fun and went zipping up I-95 with a black Nismo Z from Jersey, and a couple other tag-alongs. Ended up with 20.9mpg when I filled up this afternoon, compared to the ~27mpg when I filled up Friday night.

hey IB...did you notice better gas mileage as you racked up the miles say from 20-40k? I've tried this same type of driving when the car was new and I could barely get 27mpg....I know the engine sort of "breaks in" once it has been driven a while. Just thought I would ask since it seems that my mileage is better recently.

My mileage was consistently a combined average of 23-24mpg until I added the K&N intake last summer, when it jumped to a consistent 25-27mpg. Can't say that I recall seeing better or worse performance earlier on. I got the car with 18k on it, so the period you're asking about would have been right after I got the car.

ok thanks, I really think "performance" bolt on's can have some good effects on mileage....the hard part is not trying to "test" the mods all the time and kill mileage lol
