Check the oil, not just for level but for other fluids.
Pull the oil cap off and look inside it for deposits, and look for dark staining inside the head. If they didn't change the oil they didn't do other maintenance.
I check the brand of the oil filter. An expensive oil filter is a sign of a good owner.
Look for uneven tire wear.
The less aftermarket mods the better.
Generally just look them over and try to figure out how well they were taken care of. But keep in mind dealers clean them up.
