Does anyone know how accurate the the maintenance information received thru the in car Infinity Maintenance Info display? I have a 2017 Infinity Q50 3.0t with about 7000 miles since purchase. The computer indicates I have about 2000 miles to go before changing oil. Does this sound correct??

Have you ever drained the oil after the first 1000 miles and looked at it? I have, and you would be surprised what little particles are floating around in there, filter or no filter. I have also pulled bearings out after 1000 miles and found a lot of little scratches starting. Being broken in has nothing to do with if the oil is changed early or not, it will still break in, but wear will be reduced if you get the first oil out of there as fast as possible.

The old saying is "Oil is the cheapest part you will ever put into a motor." and it is very true.
I agree with you. I bought a brand new 2010 Silverado, changed the oil at 400, yes four hundred miles, the drain plug was just filled covered in metal shavings ..

first oil change, forget the manual, do the change at 300 -400 miles ... then follow the regular schedule.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll schedule an appointment on Monday. I have other automobiles that I change oil religiously every 3-4 k. This the first time I have a computer making recommendations and I'm trying to figure the math. Thanks again!

OK, cool. Here's a few things to keep in mind. Unless you're getting free oil changes from the dealership, find your self a reputable shop to have basics like oil changes and tire rotations done. It'll usually save you $$$. The 3,000-mile oil change is an outdated myth the automotive service industry came up with to sell more service and products. With very few exceptions cars today can go 7,000 to 10,000 miles before requiring an oil change. Technology is a good aid, but only an aid, so use your best judgement on when to have basic service done. Most of all, enjoy your car!

If you want to know for sure and don't trust their "algorithm", the best thing you could do is an oil analysis. http://www.blackstone-labs.com/
