i have a question regarding the replacement of a distributor for my 97 pathfinder; before i spend about 350.00 dollars to replace it. I was told this might be solution to my problem, as my truck won't turn on. It just cranks and cranks. thought it might need a new fuel pump but the fuel pump seemed to prime fine, tried replacing the fuel filter, still didn't turn on, checked the spark, and that seemed fine. Read somewhere that there is an internal part inside the distributor that might be bad, and would require replacing the whole distributor assembly. Before I spend that kind of money would you guys agree the distributor is the likely culprit of my truck not turning on? Any help would be appreciated.

You said that the car has spark? Hard for me to condemn a part that seems to be working. You were probably reading up on the internal ignition coil in the distributor but if that failed you would not have spark.

Or the ignition control module. Have you tried replacing the ICM? It's cheap, and worth a shot.

As far as ignition being the problem, in this type of instance it usually is. Your timing is properly set? Spark plug wires properly routed to the correct cylinders? How did you check the spark? When you turn it over, is it a constant RPM rate, or does it cyclically increase and decrease?
