Post

HI,

I would like to have an information. I am a new owner of a nissan versa S 2009, manual transmission, no A/C. And in the owner manual, they say that for the first 2000 km, I should not keep a constant speed. The person who sold me the car don't see why they have said that in the manual, he don't see how keeping a constant speed would do any harm to the car. But one of my friend say that it is better to make your speed vary (not constant) so pieces wear more evently, if i can say. So what is your opinion on that.

Secondly, it is said, in same manual, to not go over 4000 rpm, again before the first 2000 km done with the car. But, sadly, in the first few days, ( i have a bit less than 900km on the odometer) i passed the 4000 rmp 2 maybe 3 time, and once (maybe twice) i passed the 5000 rpm (still geting use the clutch). Every time, the revolution over the 4k mark was only for a few seconds ( 3 max). I wonder if I did any harm to the engine, or since only a few time and for very short time, no real harm have been done....

Thanks for your time,

JS

You should be alright, no damage done. Varying speed is so you can break everything in evenly, especially in a manual transmission... if you are constantly in your top gear, you aren't really breaking in the clutch.

Thanks again for your answer,

I didn't know that varying the speed had to do anything with the clutch, will go to bed knowing more tonight, was thinking was something more like for the bearing and/or transmission and/or engine. Just happy that I didn't do any harm to engine with my little escapade over the 4k rpm.....
