i have a question i just bought a 94 q45 and ive noticed its smoking a little and it smells like burning oul so i think its the valve covers. Also Ive noticed that when driving i lose power at times like its stalling illpush down on the gas and it takes a few seconds to actually pick up speed.is this common with the q45 or what and it also has 120000 miles on it.Do you think its the transmission or maybe its something else. please let me know thanks

Could be a million things. The oil smell, yes, is valve covers. The stalling could be a failing FPCU or failing MAF. FPCU seems more likely since it happens on acceleration. Replace the fuel pump too or your next FPCU will be fried.

Welcome to the club buddy!!! You found the right place for your Q.

Once upon a time, I owned that beast... 94Q ... and I can tell you that the 94-96 Q45's were the best Q45s ever made!!! The compromise between power, handling and overall feel... is something that you wont get in any other Q45... just my opinion.

But you need to take care of it....the problem that you are having is not transmission related. Change the vavle covers ... leaking vavle covers have a burning oil smell that comes into the cabin when the engine is hot... especially on a cold day.

The loss of power issue is two fold... injectors and spark plugs. Change your plugs... if you haven't done so and run BG 44k through the injectors 2-3 times on the highway. Ohm them to see if they are near failure. By changing you vavle covers, possible bad injectors and plugs... you'll be looking at a new car. If the injector completely fails... you see the MIL come on... and the car will shake heavily depending on how many injectors went out.

Oh.. yes it have also be your fuel pump... mine went bad at 98k on my 94Q. If you hear a loud humming sound when standing near the trunk... its time to replace the FPCU and the pump itself. Do both... dont think that the pump alone will be enough

FPCU = Computer thing in the rear deck of the car, connected to the fuel pump, that regulates fuel pressure.

MAF = Mass Air Flow sensor (sometimes called air flow meter) attached to your airbox with a wire connected to it.

My 90 just had the same problem, I was getting a rather loud humming noise comming from the trunk, and just figured the fuel pump was getting old with 180k on it so i kept on driving it and one day after school i started it and it died. My FPCU was fried so i ended up getting on of those and replacing the pump it self just sunday morning. all has been well since then. After driving my parents Newer much more expensive cars for the last month was i ever glad to get back behind the wheel of the Q. truly is one of the most comfortable cars i have drivin. would take it over the caddy any day

""""""" the 94-96 Q45's were the best Q45s ever made!""""""

i'll take you up on that!!! LOL give me the original beast 90-93 Q any day!!!! I like the feeling of getting in a car that delivers everything it was designed to do,,,,,,performance first,,,luxury next. when the 94's came out,,,compromises were being made. there are plenty of cars out there made to appeal to the masses,,,,,but i LOVE the fact the first gen Q delivers just what the engineers had in mind (the only knock might be the 2nd gear start!). other than a cup-holder,,,,don't see how ANYONE can fault the interior of the first gen Q!!! I LOVE THE TWO-TONE INTERIOR OF MY Q. Just my 2 cents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
