I need a little help with my new purchase. I bought some 17" Infinity take-off rims (from a 2012 G37) to replace the 16" rims on my 2008 Altima Coupe. The offset and bolt patterns are the same as are the center bore and nut threads. But it really looks like my original lug nuts will not work. I have seen a style of lug nut with a washer that is used on Infinities and some other Nissan products. I assume that this is the one to use. Am I correct? Also, when using the washer style lug nut, is the contact made with the washer part of the lug nut or the tip of the lug nut? With my existing lugs the contact is made with the tip of the nut. This type of contact provides a centering function along with the bore fit. If the washer type of lugs only make contact between the washer and the flat wheel surface then it seems to me that the centering function is entirely dependant on the center bore connection. So I have three questions:

1. Are the washer type lugs the ones to use with the G37 rims?
2. Is there only one style/size of OEM washer type lug nut?
3. When using the washer type lugs is the centering process entirely dependant on a good center bore fit?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Yes you have to use Infiniti lugs and I've never seen tem in person, I only know that they're different. I'm fairly certain they have a centering function like you said.

The thing that concerns me is that I know there has been at least 3 type if Infinity lug nuts over the years. The type with a washer looks like the one that was used on the 2012 G37. But it would be wise to be sure for example that there is only one washer type. If the contact is made at the washer than the nut shank width and length would be very important.

You should just go look around or ask on the infiniti forums.

You don't have to use infiniti's lug nuts, but you will need shank-style lug nuts. These can be found pretty easily.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I realized that this type is used on other vehicles including other Nissan products. Do you know if all shank-style nuts have the same dimensions?

I looked into replacement lugs for my infiniti G37S wheels and found it's best just to stick with the infiniti lugs.

Thanks for the reply. I think you are correct. I decided to just get the OEM lugs. You did not happen to check and see what a new one of them cost? If not, you should be sitting down when you call Infinity parts. Fortunately, I found a used OEM set at a reasonable price. The quality of the nuts are excellent. The finish matches the wheels. The Infinity wheels that I got are also excellent.

The one interesting question that remains, has to do with how that wheel is centered using those shank-style nuts. I will find out once I get a new set of tires mounted. I will install them myself and get a good look at all of the contact points.

Thanks again for the reply.
