@ 55 stores you're looking at roughly 18 atmospheres which is a lot of pressure. I've been down to 3.5 ATM's(140 feet salt water) and my camera knobs were retracting on their own into the housing. My buddy who's deepest dive is 275ft told me that you really don't feel any worse then @ 130ft.

People used to go to San Fran to jump off the Golden Gate but now in the lap of luxury you can make you last day the best day.

Apparently wet chutes aren't affected much by water...

Okay, so I'm no expert on skydiving, so can someone explain to me why the guy answering says that the rain stings like crazy during freefall? I would think the skydiver would either be falling at the same velocity or less than the rain, and in either case the relative velocity would be less than if you were stationary and letting the rain fall on you. :gotme

Ummm .... the water is not 55 stories deep. It is just that the pool is located at that height on the building.

A human's free-fall speed is different from a rain drop free-fall speed. Think "terminal" velocity differences.

So, the relative speed between the falling skydiver and the drops of water is probably significant.

Think of driving a motorcycle in light rain, or drizzle, without a face-shield on your helmet ... at highway speeds.

It can probably sting quite a bit. :)

Ignoring wind resistance and all other variables that would affect the speed at which they fall, gravity by itself would pull both the raindrops and the skydiver towards the earth at the exact same speed (the reason a hammer and feather dropped at the same time on the moon impact the ground at the exact same time, no wind resistance). However, this is Earth, and since raindrops don't have the ability the slice through the air like an object with the mass and inertia of a human body, the raindrops fall much slower than the skydiver, and it stings like hell (I can tell you from experience) :bigthumb:

That is what started the talk about physics.

So technicality, yes the water is 55 stories deep.
