TO:PALMER WMD--YOU MENTIONED WHAT INFO WAS REQUIRED TO EVALUATE MECHANICAL PROBLEMS ON Q 45'S.I OWN TWO 1994 Q'S BOTH OF WHICH NEED WORK.

ONE standard model NEEDS INJECTORS PLUS SUSPENSION PARTS.(130,000 MILES)

THE OTHER ONE?active(120,000) NEEDS ACCORDING TO THE DEALER KNOCK SENSORS AND O-2 SENSORS.

YOU LIVE IN LOUISVILLE 3 HOURS FROM MY HOME --DO YOU KNOW OR ARE YOU AN INDEPENDENT Q-45 MECHANIC?

THESE CARS HAVE RAPIDLY DIMINISHING VALUES WHILE REPAIRS ARE OFTEN FINANCIALLY ILLOGICAL.I AM LOOKING FOR A WAY TO AVOID THE DEALERS HIGH PRICED PARTS AND HIGHER PRICED LABOR?? AT A CERTAIN POINT ONE MUST JUST WALK AWAY AND TAKE THE BIG HIT AND MOVE ON TO SOMETHING MORE RELAIBLE.i HAVE ADVERTISED ONE CAR WHICH LOOKS IMPECCABLE at $5800and have no lookers and no testers rjliff @yahoo.com

Where are you located..... Im always up for helping a NICO member........

Everything that you have mentioned is and could have been prevented by maintenance..... Obviously, all the cheap miles have been used up....... So their gonna need work.....

What else are you going to find thats more reliable than the Q that even comes close to comparing with it!!!!

You mention 1 needs injectors, that's uncommon for a post-93. Has a dealer diagnosed the need for injectors?

I'm in the Cincy area (near Kings Island) and have used the dealer near me and some DIY.

I need to do o2 sensors myself, just did the fuel pump this weekend, VERY easy.

liff - You need 2 things:

A factory service manual and Joe Tesensky's phone number (http://www.infinitipartsusa.com).

None of these things are hard jobs and can be done fairly cheaply in your garage. Fred is incredibly knowledgeable about Q45's but is not an independent mech. - Hell, he's too busy to work on his own Q usually.

I posted info on susp parts in response to your question in the Buy/Sell forum...

The diagnosis was $85 bucks and the estimate was $650.00 to install the one injector-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------AZHITMAN--Thanks for info on suspension part--will follow up Monday--but first priority is to find the right man for the job that can do injector installs plus sensor installs and any other engine related work. The suspension replacements should be easy to get done- Off the wall where could I get a completeexcellent q45 motor and transmisssion to replace the one with 130,000 and what do you think it would cost ?Respectfully,R J LIFF --OHIO

Sorry it took me so long to reply liff,

There is an indepent with a good rep here in town "ST Mathews Imports" alas I have never used them, but rumor has it they are no strangers to our cars.

I often wait until I have a chunk of work that needs tro be done and then drive 7 hours to T3 and have the car there ofr a day or two they have always done good work at extremly competive prices.

Also There is a cluib memebr Dan aka "forecast" look him up in our members archive he is very competent "shade tree" mech on Q45's.

He is also inexpensive and has sucessfully rebuilt a Q motor before. (rare, few others have done this)

Fred..:)

Wes, do you know if #6 require "extra" parts to be removed to access?

No. 6...... Will require the removal of the plenum.... its the second to last (closest to firewall) on the passenger side...... 90% of the labor will be getting the plenum off........

Its a definite DIY job..... The plenum is more daunting than anything, and injectors arent too hard........

Group, would under plenum hoses be worth doing at the same time or is that TOO complicated?

Much less complicated than figuring out how to keep the old, cracked and brittle hoses from leaking.

And get the hoses <before> starting on the job, since they often break on disassembly and if u dont have 'em, the car may sit for dasy until u get 'em.
