My 2001 Infinity i30t was losing power so I called my mechanic enroute to the shop. He felt is was the alternator. I pulled over before I reached him due to traffic and had it towed in. Once we reached the mechanic he pulled on the belt and the aternator showed some life since it did turn a little. The "back pulley" was frozen solid. The next day he replaced the crank pulley and censor. He also said the battery was old and should be replaced soon. I replaced it the next day with an Energizer battery at Sam's. Three days later my car won't start. The first tries started to turn but wouldn't catch. I tried to jump it but no luck. After three attempts it wouldn't turn over at all or show any life. I had the MAF sensor replaced about 3 or 4 years ago. I replaced the radiator and the air conditioning compressor about 4 weeks ago. I have searched all similar posts and don't see anything specific to this issue that would help. I am not mechanically inclined so could have very easily missed something. There are no warning lights or indicator lights lit on dash prior to the issue.

:welcome: to NICO!

I'm not sure that I understand what your mechanic did. Did the alternator test OK - as in the output voltage was good? It sounds like your battery is not being charged - but without more information there's not much to go on.

If you have a volt meter please check the voltage (should be around 12VDC resting) and during starting and post the results...

I am not sure about the mechanic testing the voltage on the alternator - but when i described how the car acted on the way there - he said it sounds like it's the alternator. But then when he looked under the hood, he changed his opinion/diagnosis and said the back crank pulley was frozen solid and he replaced that as well as the crank sensor. Also replaced power steering belt and and some other belt as well (not sure which). Paid $500.00. I then went to Sams club and installed a new battery too, as he said the battery was old and would soon need replacing. Car drove fine for 3 days; then last night it wouldn't restart after starting and stopping perfectly 3 times in a short time period as I ran various local errands. It clicked and made a couple of weak attempts to start - but never got any battery turning over sounds. This morning lights are on in car, radio comes on, but now no sound at all when i turn key and try to start. (even less sounds than last night). I am trying to find a voltage meter to get that answer for you - will advise shortly. Thank You in advance for any and all advice. Best, Ray

Check your battery cable connections at the battery. It's possible that if they're loose, they would make good enough contact to operate your lights, radio, etc - but not when you put the heavy load of the starter on it.

I ended up with a mechanic in the parking lot and determined it was the starter. Replaced it. I still find the car not turning over on first attempt after parking and coming back to car in 15-30 minutes. Turns over on second attempt though. Very frustrating. Thank you for the recommendation, Heath.
