Infinity EX 35 engine splash guard

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Just bought an Infinity EX 35 2008 with 114K miles and discovered the engine splash guard has some rusted bolts and some missing bolts where the plastic is broken away so that new bolts would not be wide enough to catch the edge of the plastic. Somebody used 4 plastic garbage bag ties to secure it. Before I go to the expense of replacing it, is the darn thing necessary? The previous owner lived in the snow of Rochester NY, but I live in Gainesville FL.

Even though I currently live in the Northeast, I think I'd still keep a splash guard installed under the engine if I were in Florida. I believe the alternator hangs pretty low off the engine. I'm sure that it can get a little wet without any issue, but if you happen to drive in heavy rain and hit a huge puddle, it could be a different story. So I would probably keep the extra protection under there just in case. If you're looking for a replacement, I think they can be found on eBay for under $125 or so.

yes - not just for rain but additional dirt/dust/rocks/pebbles, etc.. I would replace.

On one of my son's cars, an 04 accord we bought used - I went to change the oil right after we got it and it had none of the bottom covers remaining, and it was a mess under there. :O

Welcome!!!!
