The Q45a [active suspension] springs were 108f/88r vs conventional 146f/123r [lbs per inch]. 25-28% softer and were ~~16" free length vs ~~8" compressed with body weight on them.

The shocks have a 7" stroke so optimal is compressed with static body weight so that + - 3.5" middle of stroke.

{{{The problem with Eibach or other 1" lowering springs is the shock becomes assymetrical with 2.5" to bottom stroke and 4.5" to expansion stroke.Not to mention the increase in stored energy [that the oem shoch can't dissipate] from the rear up to 200% increase in stiffness......rears wear out FAST. Fronts less so, since only 25% stiffer springs.}}}

Obviously without the active system support the car would be slammmed 2-4 inches lower.

We just swap the entire [spring -strut- top hat mount structure] from a conventional non active Q to retrofit -----[use new conventional shocks].

The trick to selecting springs is the free legth vs. under static load compression 16" > 8" to yield a natural frequency of ~~ 1.2 Hertz for a lux car [softer springs].

hello and thank you for your responseI am not sure I have informed you properley.I do not have an active suspension. I was told that all the Infiniti.s imported into Australia in 94 had standard suspensions.

My husband is wondering how we could find out whether some one put lowered springs in it. It there some sort of measurement to guide us.

Also do we need to take the skyline shockers back out and if so could you suggest what we could put in instead.

As you can imagine, parts here are as scarce as rocking horse droppings.

I am sorry if I seem to be asking the wrong questions. I am much better at rosters and staff management, cars are to complex.

I am in just as much trouble as you with suspension and a manual. However, if your Q is not an import your local Nissan Stealer should be able to put you intouch with the dealer that sold the car via the VIN No. The Infiniti dealer in Qld is Gold Coast Nissan. Can you trace the original owner through the registration in SA. The original owners may still have the owners manual. Si (from Bris) has some threads on NICO so you do have at least 2 friends in Aust. With the expert help from the guys at NICO have no fear at all, there is nothing they can't tell you about the Infiniti (just remember their steering wheel is on the wrong side and a few things are backwards) Read as many posts as you can

I gave you all the info you need .......take the spring off and measure the free unmounted length.

REAR Wire diameter 12.0mm, average coil diameter 115.0mm, free length 16.73 inches [425mm].

Front Wire diameter 12.0 mm, average coil diameter 110.0 mm, free length16.89 inches [429mm].

OEM even used should be within 3% [17.2"-------16.2"] free unmounted length.

Stiffer lowering springs or just the WRONG springs for a lighter car will be shorter than 16.2"

Read as many posts as you can
Including how to spell Infiniti!

Seriously, read all of Q45tech's posts (reversing things for right hand drive), then you will understand. The FSM and TSB for the USDM cars are available at http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti/ for a one day subscription.

Bloody hell one little mistake and Ya got me. I notice you guys use a lot of "Z" where we use "S" but I'll let you off seeing yous help us out so much.

Just on spelling. When I do a spell check it's corrected when you are there in the spell check, but when you return to the post the spelling remains uncorrected. As I am the worlds worst speller I use it a lot. Sorry I guess this should be in general chat!!!!

Infiniti, Infiniti, Infiniti. X 100

Bloody hell...one little mistake and whamo!! Infiniti, Infiniti, Infiniti. Just on the subject of spelling, your spell check will not correct my many spelling mistakes. Is this a fault with my puter or NICO's program? I use the spell check and then when I click back to the post my incorrect spelling is still there embarrassing me. Maxnix, I have tried to register with that link but it will not let me on. The site only understands US address's and ZIP Codes in the drop downs. I have tried to register and logon a few times now but it just ignores me. I emailed them a few days ago and am still waiting a reply. Any other clues on obtaining a Service Manual (FSM and TSB)I guess USDM= United States Dealer M?????

Don't feel bad... I called a 240Z a 240ZX on eBay and the guys on the Z car forum caught it. Apparently the "X" didn't get added to the naming scheme until the 280zx was introduced.

The guy who owned "Q2" for 11 years still spelled Infiniti with a Y on the bill of sale

I think USDM = United States Domestic Market (vs JDM which is Japan Domestic Market)

US Domestic Market. That is what the Infiniti site is designed to accomodate. Maybe send a US NICO member $20, let him register and email you the access code? Only 1994+ G50 manuals available there.

I think the lady's name is Alice Chen. She's very nice and accomodating.

ThanksGreat idea, I'll take that as an offer to send you the $20 @ whatever the conversion rate is at the time. However, I'll wait a few more days to see if I get a reply from that link you sent me if that's OK with you.

The more I read about the CHAIN GUIDES the more I realiz(s)e I will need a FSM and Tangalora's pic's by my side at all times. I'm 62 and things take a little longer for me to do these days. Any of you blokes need a HOLIDAY Down Under we can do the OIL PAN job as well while your down here. The accommodation and meals are on me, but I'll need you to bring the parts in your luggage. Should only take a week or so If Tangalora brings her camera we could make a documentary.

Actually I believe my Q45A was manufactured November 1989 in Japan but would have been sold as a '90 model in the US. I'm wondering if there would be much difference in your '94's (apart from just a few things being on the wrong side) and your '90 ??

My missus recons I'm real sick staying up till 2&3 in the AM reading stuffs ( I just love Tangalora posts) about a car. My motto is:-"I HAVE TO GROW OLD BUT I"LL NEVER GROW UP"Wes, tell me if there is a better site anywhere else than right here?

There were several changes from the first production run on, with the big one in 1994 and again in 1996 (OBD II). No more USDM G50 after that.

Check ebay, but don't go for the manuals on CD. Occasionally a 1990 FSM will pop up, usually the bible-sized one (included with the car), not the full size shop manual. Once again, it will be for a USDM model.

Best thing is to read here, especially all posts by Q45tech and texasoil if you have an active suspension.
