This year, I've been fortunate enough to get into the NAIAS Detroit Auto Show before the general public is allowed in. I've noticed many new concept and production vehicles have got analog clocks sitting on the dashboard a la Infiniti. Previous to Infiniti the only other analog clocks I had seen where in Maserati's (Infiniti originally borrowed the idea from Maserati) and high end newer Chrysler models. Where not even talking luxury cars here, where talking economy and mid size domestics. What's shocking is that a lot of these analog clocks are actually attractive. Could this be another gimmick to try to move more domestic cars?

Infiniti got the idea from Jaguar, along with most other design cues -- thats not a bad thing!

I want to get a third car this year, a Chrysler 300M. Those also have analog clocks.

For us oldtimers,we remember when ALL cars had analog clocks! When the digital clocks became available widely in the 70`s,analog clocks became "old fashioned " and were slowly phased out, first from the expensive cars, finally to the cheaper cars! I remember my 79zx having an analog clock, and wanting to update it to the digital one that Nissan started using in the early 80`s zx! now I look at the clock in my 79zx and 96Q and wouldnt want a digital one! Kind of like the digital watch era,how tacky was that! nothing like a good analog clock or watch!I have an Omega Speedmaster professional "Moon watch"that i have enjoyed for 15 plus years, and cant ever see replacing with anything else, analog is here to stay, soo classic.

How true... my parents 1982 Mazda 626 was the "Luxury Model" with a digital clock. The standard had an analog... :D

My 1962 GMC truck has an analog clock in it. Do you think Infiniti copied it?:D

Forgive me, I don't remember such an abundance of analog clocks-and I survived the '80's (I know, that dates me) except in luxury models (i.e. Jags, Maserati's, etc). I had a friend who had the clock stolen from its Maserati once. If I remember correctly. the clock was worth something like $2000+ all by itself ( a lot of money back then). I do remember an ugly square analog clock in a friend Cadilllac Cimmaron.

I had a few customers in the Q, yesterday, and one gentleman, in the back seat pointed out the clock. "Very classy" was his coment.

I love the gold bezel. It IS more classy than the black ones in the eralier models, and the oval one in the 2000 I30t, In my opinion.

I don't mind the clocks in the '00 I30's, what bothers me are the tailights. I like the ones on the '00 Maxima's better.

Doesn't anyone remember the large analog clocks in the old Mercedes from at least the sixties on? The tachometer was an afterthought.

WHOA!, You are the first person I have met, that likes the '00 Maxima better than the I30.

I still cry over the ugly design. It got better, when they went to the clear lenses.

I love the I30, because when the lights are lit, they look like LED's. The body lines and the chrome strip flows, where the Maxima's look like they are missing something. Plus, when it is night, they light up, just like the VW Beatle, except the turn signal and brake lights are swapped.

We had 3 black Maxima's before the I30t, and I couldn't bring myself to buy the 00 model. Besides, I got the I30t, for the same price, and the dealership treats me like a King, on the oil changes. - Free loaner car (G35), Free car wash, no waiting, "Mr. Williams this & Mr. Williams that", AND the best part, is, I only Pay $7 for the oil changes!!!!!

Definintely sold me on the brand, for life.

I have warmed-up to the 04 Maxima, though. It looks more like a 4-door 350Z.
