Hi,Happy New Year everyone!Just wondering how I can upgrade this system. I think it sounds good... I've already added an aftermarket 10" sub - 200 watts rms.Enough Bass for sure now... but the surround sound seems off.I want to change the rear 6.5" mids so it should sounds stronger? One installer said that those speakers are certain ohms - and cannot be replaced with most aftermarket speakers --- ??? tru?THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

True....well, if you have the BOSE stereo, know that BOSE like to keep the speakers at a very low impedence so that they can sound loud off little power. they are at either 1 ohm or .5, i don't recall. In any case, you will definitely like the sound of upgraded speakers, but then you would also want to change out the amplifier, and probably the deck as well. The stock amplifier probably wont have enough power to push the current speakers.

If you are goin for quality anyways, i say go for the aftermarket stereo stuff. You'll never go back to stock, i never have!

As for speakers, there are several brands worth buying and it really comes down to preferance in your listening ear and what you are willing to spend

I haven't found a stock stereo set that is good enough for me. I have put aftermarket HU/amps/speakers/subs in all of my vehicles and will continue to do so until they start making them right the first time!

Bose speakers are 2 ohm...so if you don't replace the amp, I recommend you get a speaker with similar impedance. You CAN use aftermarket speakers with the bose, or non-bose system.

I just thought of something...For my stereo system, I integrated a sub in my factory setup. To do this, I used the rear speakers (on the side) not the rear deck, for a high-level input on my MTX amp to drive the sub. It's possible that your installer used the rear deck speaker leads as input for your amp...

Check to see if you hear sound from the rear deck...if you don't, I'd take it back and have them use the rear seat side speakers as the input. Those speakers are for bass only, so it will be better for you subs anyway.

what do you mean the surround sound seems off? this is a 2 channel stereo system, not surround sound. if you mean the stereo isnt in balance any more, its because you put your gain on your amp is too high and everything isnt tuned for the new sub. unplug the subs in the fornt doors, maybe it will even out the bass

unplugging the front subs would really cut out the mid-low bass range... I think it would be best to look at adjusting your gain levels on your amp... It is likely either too high, or too low...

My advice, for what it's worth would be keep the gain on the amp to the upper 3/4 of full power without going too high, lower the bass output on your deck to maybe -3 or -4... keep your highs from -1 to 0... as treble can create static and distortion to the subs, however minor... and can also interfere with bass quality.

Good Luck I'm installing my set-up maybe this weekend, just need new 0gauge wire first, I cut my last one up messing with a power cap

Hi, i did not install myself... my friend's shop did - did a great job, they always do --- it was relatively cheap $125 including wires etc...

My bass is really strong... running 3 stock subs, and my aftermarket 10" with a ported box [Kicker sub, rockford amp]. fyi, i think a enclosed box may sound better - my low end [freq] bass is awesome - maybe too low...

Thx,. R

Actually, the bass isn't the issue - like i said, it sounds great - low end anyways...It's the freakin Infiniiti "Studio on Wheels" - front biased sound that I don't really like --- apparently, this Studio on Wheels concept is based on having the most of the sound come from the "front" of the car = cinematic sound: QUOTED FROM EDMUNDS.COM: ""Like this home system, Crahan says, the Studio on Wheels system is capable of reproducing sounds in a wider frequency range than most audio systems, and it is designed to "stage" the sound entirely from the front.""

... WELL this stage to front idea is great... but after having the car for 1+ yr now... and after listening to my friend's bmw 335i [should i mention this car in an infiniti forum? lol] with the Harmann Kardon Logic7 sounds system ... I DO like the conventional surround sound more. So I tried a few things:

I faded the sound all to the rear speakers: only 2x 6.5" mids --- and they sound...Ummm...Crappy -not very loud of course, and sound quality is only acceptable. So that's why I would like to try - replacing [if i can] these 2 mids in the back... cuz it is the cheapest solution -, other than fading the sound to the rear a few notches - which I already have.

Sorry for the long winded post.. but I think some missunderstandings have already occured...

My bass is fine, and the gain is fine too - the bass is never overpowering cuz the 3way component speakers in the front are very strong, and sound quality is good-excellent. But the rear mid sound - even when i fade it to the rear just is unacceptable to me - almost as if Bose/Infiniti decided to put all of the $$ in the front speakers and ran out of money for the rears, so they just put cheap speakers in the back.

Thanks for the quotes guys...Any more suggestions?Since those rear speakers are 2ohms... ... and I don't really want to replace the amp - because it gets expensive, and a sound guy said I may have to get a separate volume controller ...

What do you guys think about the Infiniti/Bose "Studio on Wheels" system on this 07-G ?

Thx. R

There is going to be no cheap solution to fixing it, just to let you know. Depending on where the sound shaping for the stage-front sound shaping takes place, you'll either need to buy a new HU or amp+speakers to get rid of it because its virtually unadjustable. Its not necessarily the cheap speakers in the back, its the signal that's augmented that's going to them.
