From Automobile Magazine, July 04:

"Nissan Motor's president and CEO, Carlos Ghosn, has announced that the Infiniti luxury brand, beginning in mid-2005, will expand beyond the United States to Korea, then to Japan, China, and Russia by 2008, and eventually to Europe. Ghosn also confirmed that the next generation of the tiny Japanese-market Cube, picture above in extended wheelbase Cube Cubic form, will be sold globally. In the states, it likely will slot in as Nissan's entry-level model, below the Sentra, and compete against the Scion xB."

Do actual people buy these stupid things?

Gee, I wonder what one of these looks like after being T-boned by a big SUV!

Heck, I think a J30 would demolish one of those. Ever see Max-X on TV, You know some of those idiots were killed in those videos!

You guys are so "American" ;) . Small boxy cars are very popular in Japan. When I was there in the fall I saw the Nissan Cube's all over the place as well as the XB's (although I think they're Bb's over there) Mitsubishi Wagon-R's, etc. They were never designed for the US market, they were inteded for the narrow streets and very tight parking in Japan. They are also great "first" cars. But since Japan market stuff is popular in the states, they figured they should try them out. The Scion Xb's offer ALOT for the money, not to mention more interior space than a Ford Explorer - seriously. I don't know if the trend will continue, but I think they look cool, especially once you hook em up a bit, and the Scions can be bought from the dealer with custom wheels, numerous interior and exterior options for like 17 grand. I don't know how they're doing in other parts of the country, but in So Cali they're catching on quite well. My 02c's on the topic.

I think it's funny how they market them to kids, but all the over 60 folks are snapping them up.

I've noticed the same for a lot of "interesting" looking cars like the Beetle, Element, and xB.

I wont forget a reader's letter in the March issue of Motor Trend where an 18 year old guy comments on an article about Scion, and how its supposed to attract young buyers. He basically goes on to ask what kind of kid would buy such ugly contraptions, and says his Infiniti G20 gets the job done with style, taste, and sex appeal.

Japanese youth are a little strange to me. A few Americans may have adopted crap like anime, DDR, and hello kitty. But the Camaro, Mustang, Integra, 240, and Celica will always be faster, sexier, and more desirable than a miniature Chevy Astro.

Heck, at least with an Astro, you can load it up with your friends and take a boat to the lake.

I'll have to agree with Falkdesigns that xAs and xBs are catching on like hotcakes for a good reason. xBs are more prevalent on Northern Cali roads than xAs, and there's no stopping it since their return on investment is fruitful enought to introduce the tC in the near future. Nissan is making the right move to go after the Scion market share with the Cube since the demand for econo cars (regardless of consumer age) is always there.

OK...I don't want to hijack this discussion, so I'm starting a new thread on Nissan's marketing failure.

Scions (can't remember if the a or b is the box) are big in Austin with the Under 30 crowd.
