Forgive me if this has already been covered.

My 99 Q45 only came with one key and I've been dreading having to go to a dealer to get another key and have it programmed. $$$. So doing some searching on the web, I came across this site:

http://www.programautokeys.com/classifi ... sp?id=1621

From there they linked to this site that will supposedly help you search for a smith that has the equipment to program your key.

http://www.locatealocksmith.com/

There's three close to me but all in other cities. It's after 10pm here so I can't call and confirm these smiths can actually program a new key but I thought this might be helpful to others here.

Thanks for sharing.
Most recently I lived in a small enough town that only had one locksmith serving 5 or so cities, so things were a little simpler.

That's funny, I recently found a spare key taped to my smart key sensor hidden away under my dash. Wondering now if I can do away with the sensor completely and install a switch, so mom can have a key.

The key taped to the sensor is likely a part of an aftermarket remote start system.

Nope, the sensor is part of the smart key system that goes around the ignition tumbler. Completely OEM.

Interesting. Maybe a previous owner wanted to use aftermarket non-chipped keys (or a remote start system), and taped a spare OEM key to the sensor to bypass the security system.

Possibly, but I noticed the key doesn't work even if it's like an inch away. It needs to be right inside the smart key sensor itself. Not sure if it would work properly if I put everything back together as it should be, key/sensor signal might be too weak. Another thing I noticed about the sensor, it may not like other smart keys close to it, which is why my old key worked when the sensor was hidden and the signal quarantined to just the key inside the electrical tape on the sensor. Now with the sensor hanging out in the open, the only key that 100% works is the found dash key. Hope this helps someone.
