yeah i was thinking the same thing, replaced the battery still nothing, alternator however is something when i was at the dealership they said my alternator was making a noise but it was good, yeah i would think the dealership would have been able to figure out the problem but all they did was plug into my computer and read the codes and all they did was reset my keys. No lights come on abs or parking breakQ451990 wrote:Sounds like an electrical voltage problem like a failing alternator or battery to me, but that's a guess... the dealership should have been able to diagnose that. Does the parking brake light or ABS light (they double as alternator fault warning lights) come on at the same time?
Heath
its a brand new battery literally went to the store bought a brand new battery (charged) and put it in still no go. yeah im shocked the dealer couldnt figure out the issue they told me they reset the chip because my car went into fail safe mode but driving home from the dealer i stalled a block from my house, waited about 10 min car started again rushed home and it stalled in my drive way. I honestly think its my alternator but reading more into it could be the starter solenoid?paranoidjack wrote:Doesn't sound like a key chip to me...that's questionable that they'd come to that conclusion.
I would side with Heath and say it's definitely an electrical problem. Did they actually replace the key and chip and reset to ignition or just say that was the issue?
Have you tried jumpstarting it?

As soon as I bought the car, I replaced the battery as it was failing. While replacing the battery, Advance Auto tested the car's electrical system and found a bad alternator. Another similar case happened with my son's 99 Maxima when the stereo head unit would stop working.
I've seen situations with Nissan cars in the 95 to 99 year range where a combination of failing alternator and battery can appear as other hard to diagnose electrical issues with car's head unit and computer (NATS immobilization). I would get the car's battery and alternator checked to rule out any battery/alternator issues as first step.
