I have a 1992 q45 I bought last week with a bad transmission. I bought a new/used transmission that was said to be good. I have all the gears and doesn't seem to slip. My concern is a hard shift in all forward gears. I flushed the transmission put a new filter and made sure the level was good. I have a transmission malfunction light on. I was reading and seen something on the dropping resistor so I tried unplugging it and there was no shifting difference. What is the ohm reading I should get from this dropping resistor? And what else is recomended? Thanks

Obviously you got what you paid for- another used worn transmission near the end of its life. Low price fix often turns out to be high cost.

I ran the AT Check and through a 7 B code. Is that a 7 code and a B code or is it together.

7: Torque converter clutch solinoid valve circuit is shorted-circuited or disconnected.

B: Line pressure solenoid valve is short-circuited or disconnected.

Good luck, Hope its a simple repair.

The transmission internals are probably gummed up from sitting idle on a non-op Q. You've done all the right things so far and if money's not tight go to a shop and pay $100-$150 for a BG chemical flush and fluid replacment.

I've had good success on two hard shifting Q's with Lucas Transmission Additive. It gave instant improvement on both Q's. I also just got finished using Lubeguard Black in the 94Q and in about 3 weeks it cured a random no-shift problem. Give the Lucas a try first.

You also want to make sure the throttle position sensor is operating properly. Is the connector clean and tight? Ditto for the MAF and CAS sensor connectors.

Let the flaming begin.

If 85k miles is used and worn and at the end of its life I would hate to see any use g50 transmission.

13-19 years,even with only 85K is OLD as far as Q trannys are concerned-many dont make it to 100K without frequent fluid changes FROM BRAND NEW. Sitting around for years,and lots of city driving{ ancient with only 85K means lots of stop and go driving}

You would have known this if you did your homework by reading old posts here!!!! Expensive mistake, common for newbies.

We tell every newbie the cheapest and most effective method is to install the Nissan rebuilt from Joe and add an auxiliary ATF cooler. The ones who don't invest the time to read the previous posts nor do a search learn the hard way after they spend as much for their third or fourth barely functioning used transmission or fubared local AAMCO, Cottman's, or no-name partial rebuilder.

Yup, sure sounds like wiring to me. The first thing that came to mind is the way the transmission shifts when you play with the dropping resistor.

You have one or more bad connections/connectors, I bet.
