Hey guys my name is Jason I live in Alice springs in the centre of Australia and I recently bought an Infiniti q45 for just 3000 dollars however to my dissapointment I found out that the hydraulic suspension is shagged that means it's not working for all those in the us of a anyway I'm thinking of replacing the hydraulic suspension with normal strut towers and not lowered ones cause it has a bodykit and I go over speed humps everyday. Well once it's on the road that is. Anyway any help finding strut towers that will work would be much appreciated even if they are from another type of car all together kinda hoping some local type of Nissan strut tower will work or if anybody has ideas on how to fix the actsus let me know

Cheers Jason

Welcome to NICO!

One of our sponsors named Strutmasters has a conversion kit listed.

Also, there is a guy in Australia who develops diagnostic software for Q45s (and other OBDI) Nissans who I believe is looking for one with an active suspension to validate his product. His product is named ECUTalk. Depending on your location, he might want to capture some diagnostics on your car before you convert it to regular coil springs. You guys might get lucky and the software will find the issue with your suspension.

It would certainly IMO be worth looking at the active to see whats wrong with it.. Most Q imported to AUS were active cars since that was what they were predominantly in Japan..

What all is wrong with the suspension? Its possible it may need some new accumulators and fresh fluid, and it will be back in business. Unless things are REALLY ugly with the active suspension, converting it is usually MORE expensive than fixing the broken components.

um yeah well whatever the cheaper option is well thats the better option, and as far as the actsus is concerned well i just got given the car with the suspension the way it is one i don't actually know what it does, two the car just sits on its a** all the time like an inch or so off the ground, and three when you change the switch from H to N or the other way round nothing at all happens.

and for those interested here are some pics of my beast

Are those cloth or leather seats in that Q? And that steering wheel, is it factory or aftermarket?

Yeah the seats are made of velour and the steering wheel was on there when I bought it but I'd be inclined to think that it's aftermarket and thanks for the link I'll check it out

damn, that car reminds me of that lame friggin song by nelly "lemme see yo grill!" get rid of that atrocious grille! And that wheel. WOW. But enough raggin on ya, if your already talking the "cheaper" route, then get rid of the car, you will only let it go downhill from there.

The steering wheel is kind of cool, and yeah the velour seats are more common in Japan. Apparently the Japanese dont like sitting on dead cow skin for some reason?

Hey guys just wondering if the problem with my suspension might be something as dumb as being new fluid needed if so where do o fill it up and what fluid is required also does anyone have a workshop manual I can buy my car did not come with one and the one on the forum is no good cause it's to many pages to print.

Cheers

You really need to speak with Keith. He is the expert, especially with alternate fluids.

Have any of you guys ever used the conversion kit from strutmasters and once you put it on are the springs manually adjustable?

Conversion done right is usually as expensive as fixing the active suspension which is still cutting edge today.

So, last time, have you contacted Keith? Any reading of the previous posts would help you a lot. The Q45 is not a cheap car to maintain, but it can be affordable with the knowledge from this board.

You also need to read about the timing chain guide issue in the stickies above! First and foremost!

hey im from victoria, have a q45 pretty much same body kit & wheels except white.

download this service manual http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45/1994_Q45/
theres a section in there on diagnosing the active suspension. If you read it through it will eventually make sence haha
When i got my car it was the same deal, sat on its a** and was rock hard. I ended up using auto trans fluid to get it pumped up. was still rock hard, but at least it wasnt sitting on the ground so i could get it road worthy. I've now replaced it with height adjustable air bag suspension.

If you give up on active suspension easiest thing to do would be to jump on ebay and get yourself some tokico struts and then source some king springs locally.
Then take the car into a power steering workshop and get them to 'disable' the part of the power steering pump which runs the active suspension. You can then start tearing it all out after that.

If you need more 'local' help, jump on the aus-vip forum if you havent already as im usually on there and can help you out
