Anyone know where to get good deals on Infiniti parts (and specifically who to call)? I'm primarily looking for a set of 6-spoke 17-in wheels off of a G35. I saw a post by Tom Novak regarding these but I also saw some posts that say that he's gone from the Lisle Infiniti. It would be great if someone could post an updated list of places to call and who to reach.

Anyway, these wheels should fit with on a J30, right? And how would one go about getting the speedometer adjusted to the new tire and wheels sizes?

P.S. - Glad to join such a great message board with such knowledgeable people. I've been spending hours just reading the various posts since I found this place a few days ago.

But is there a place to go to get the original OEM wheels like those shown in the post by Tom Novak?

http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....novak

This may seem silly but I would like to have the Infiniti emblem on the wheels.

eBay has them every so often. There is one seller, that has Nissan and Infiniti wheels almost all the time. I got some 2002 I35 17" Chrome wheels, with brand new tires off of eBay for $1,175.00 I then sold my 2000 I30 17" polished aluminum wheels with 25,000 miles for $675.00 Not a bad trade, 4 brand new Bridgestone RE92 ($169.00 each), and a chrome upgrade for a $500.00 bill.

I am happy.

When you decide which wheel to buy, call Tirerack or Discount Tire Direct. They can tell you what size tire will keep the speedo roughly the same, and eliminate a recalibration.

Regarding tire size and recalibration, it seems with the kind of tire that I want without going to high in price would require the speedo to be recalibrated. To match up with the current P205/60R15 of my J30t, I would need to use P215/45R17 with the 6-spoke 17s of the G35 sedan. This is according to the tire calculator at:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I am primarily looking into Goodyear tires and this only leaves the Eagle F1s and HP Ultra Pluses. F1s are excellent tires but are likely well out of my price range. The main tires that I am interested in are the Eagle RS-A. According to the website, they have fairly good wet traction (really important) along with comfortable and quiet ride (also important). The smallest that the RS-As come in are P215/50R17 and there is a small readjustment that must be made to the speedometer.

Comfort and quietness are key especially since I'm about to head off to college and I don't want the long rides to get on my nerves. Also, wet traction is extremely important. One main reason why I am looking for new wheels is because of damage to my current ones, the original aluminum alloys off a 1996 J30t (plus, they are extremely hard to clean). It was raining, and I fishtailed coming off a turn. Came from a stop light and had lightly stepped on the gas. I was in the center lane, flew into the right curb, and ended up in the left lane (three lane going one direction - two direction road with median). Ended up bending two parts of the struts and caused major damage to the wheels (needed major rebalancing). These were with a set of somewhat aged Yokohamas. Sorry about the rant but thats what happened. Just glad there weren't any other cars involved.

And also, if anyone has any tire suggestions that would fit what I am looking for and would work great on my J30t, feel free to list it.

I think you will want more meat on the tires if you go to 17" rim. I'd aim at least for 245 but 255 could fit as well. Not sure what this will do to the speedo or fit into your wheel wells, but I'd go as big as you can.

Steelv -

I would concur that you would be better served w/a wider patch down on the road a-la

BTW - 245/40/17's are a direct size options - many would let you keep the same approx. speedo reading such as 225/45/17s or 235/40/17s (1% speedo diff) - and that really doesn’t incorporate extremely important considerations of unsprung weight, offsets, load carrying ability, tire design and material construction and the subjective handling and noise characteristics you need to factor in - while most of the threads I follow are Q related, there is a lot to be learned from Q45techs’ insights and perusing the several tire related threads here vs listening to the min. wage tire store guys pushing what is stocked.

Save up your shekels and spend for better quality rubber - it really ends up being just about the cheapest insurance you can ever effectively get !

Well, it's not gonna be my money. It's going to be my parent's. I'm just a student about to graduate from highschool and head off to college. I'm looking for a tire that will give great wet traction but along with good ride for a decent price. The lower the profile of the tire, the more likely it will be the high end model that will end up breaking the bank. Anyway, other than tire sizes, you could give also recommendations for the actual tire (i.e. - brand and model).

But back to the main part of my original post, could anyone give a list of places to call and who to reach for good deals? For the specific rims that I am looking for, Tom Novak of Lisle Infiniti had a post a while ago that said that he has some for only $1000 a set, but I also heard that he isn't working there anymore and is working at an Acura dealership. Could anyone help me with this? It would be nice to get a deal for around a similar price for a set of four.

Oh yea, even with all of the tire size recommendations, it seems that there will still be a change in speedo readout versus actual speed. So how would I go about a speedometer readjustment? I don't want to get any tickets for going a different speed than thought. My parents would take my car the first moment I get another ticket since they are paying a lot for me to take my car to college.

There are only really 2 sizes, in my opinion, you can use safely on the 17" rims for the Q (5,200# car) One is the 225/50/17, and the other is a 245/45/17. The 245 tire is a little smaller in diameter than the 225 tire, and I did not see any performance benefits buy going to the wider 245/45/17 tire, but I did realize a comfort benefit from the 225/50/17 tire. When you go to an 8" rim, the contact patch of the 245/45/17 and the 225/50/17 are relatively the same. The 245/45/17 tire does not look any wider.

The 40 series tire mentioned by msscom will not be enough sidewall, and can not handle the weight. Pot holes could damage the rims, or in hard cornering, the tire could roll right off the rim (or so I've heard).

Total wheel diameter of the stock 15" tires, and the 225/50/17 tires is within 1/10", and did not require an adjustment on my Q. My spedo is off, at most, 1 MPH @ 80 (it reads 81 MPH, when my wife's I30 reads 80 MPH). When youget up to 140 MPH, it is off a little more, but you are going to jail, if you are caught, anyway.

When I first went to 17" rims, I had Continental SportContact 245/45/17 tires on the car, but they made the car really darty. I then went to the Bridgestone Potenza RE92 225/50/17 tires. They were great, but did not last very long. I now have the NITTO NT450 225/50/17 ($114.00 each)on my '94 Q. They handle great in the rain, and look cool, since the tread is directional. You can get them at Discount Tire Direct. The only problem, is they are a little noisier on dry pavement, than the Bridgestone Potenza RE92 ($169.00 each). The good part is, they will last twice as long as the Bridgestones.

By the way, the Bridgestones are what Infiniti puts on the Touring models of the Q and the I.

I have 20,000 miles on the NITTO's, and the tires still look new. I have had 10 to 12 sets of NITTO tires over the years, and have never had a set I didn't like, or that didn't last 50,000 miles, or more.

Firestone Firehawk tires look to be reasonable in price, bu I do not have any experience with them.

Most people say that the Q eats tires, so get the best deal you can.

I don't mind the noise, but would not put these on my wife's car. I will stick with the Bridgestones for her.

Good price, I expect it to go up. These are the Bridgestone tires I have on the I30t.

I bought a set of chrome 17" 2002 I30t wheels with these tires, dealer take-offs for $1,175.00, then paid $150.00 for shipping.

The Bridgestone R# 92, has a treadwear rating of 160, which is a lot less than the NITTO's, which is 300. Expect the tires to perform well for about 25,000 to 30,000 miles, then get dangerous in the rain (Of course, I drive 70 to 80 in the rain).

Take a look at the feed back on that one before you bid, also I emailed him to get him on the record as to whether they would fit and he replied he did not know, he also would not confirm whether they came off a coupe or a sedan, if off the sedan the offset is a good match, if off the coupe it is not as close and the backs are wider than the fronts and the tires are two different sizes.

Actually, they're the 6-spoke standard. The tire sizes could be changed. I've seen on the Infiniti website that both the coupe and sedan can come with that wheel, just different tire sizes. Anyway, the guy lives in Houston and I can meet with him. Actually, I'm gonna go to the Infiniti dealership just to doublecheck regarding the fit of the wheels. I might actually meet with him there. He says he might sell me the wheels and tires directly. Just need to doublecheck with my dad. Thanks to everyone for their input. I would still like to know places to contact though. The only person I know is Joe of Scottsdale. Any other places would be nice (like Lisle, especially since Tom moved to Acura).

I picked up a set of these, used for about 6k miles, from eBay for $660 and free shipping. These are 17x7, 45mm offset, OEM Infiniti wheels - should work on my 1995 Q45! They look good - just waiting for my current of tires on my current 15x6.5 rims to wear down to where I need new tires! :)

The Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP is an outstanding tire. Ultra quiet, super strong, and the best tire I have ever had in the past 25 years of driving experience. This is based on my criterion for what I wanted: excellent handling in wet and dry conditions, excellent braking in wet and dry conditions, good quietness, good in everything else (except snow, which I no longer experience where I now live!).

I have them iin 225/60-15 on my current set of wheels for my 95 Q and plan to get their 245/45-17 for the new rims I have purchased on eBay.

If you want to see some of my previous comments on these tires, please do a search for my earlier posts!

I have to agree with szhosain; I have had the Firestone tires on my Q for about 3 months and they are excellent...the "grippiest" tires I have ever had on the car.
