This hah. Screw Infiniti/Navteq holding us hostage with map updates for $100+ each year and not even really updating POI's that frequently.

But this may be good for those who don't want to or don't know how to install aftermarket parts.

Thanks for sharing J.

Could this conceivably be used to make my screen in my 2008 Pathy do anything other than display trivia (I dont have the Nav package)

Don't think so. The site doesn't say it works for the non-nav pathy. You might have to buy a standalone android headunit.

Agree with Yoda. You're actually better off by the sound of it and can get just get a really nice fancy double din head unit that will not only give you Android Auto/CarPlay but also navigation. When I was still rolling around on a 4th Gen Maxima, I had a Kenwood DNX8120 and also are Pioneer Avic Z1 and man, those things were amazing for the time (this was back in the late 2000's).

you could get one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076W8CH49

and this:
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Braided-A ... B088CZLHGL

Plus your favorite tablet

:gapteeth:

Aside from that, I think you might need to do a custom build. I've seen a few 370z builds where the HVAC controls were integrated into the tablet.

Funny that they still adjusted their seasonal price back up to $149, even though version 12 was released months ago. I got their version 12 map in July for $129+Tax, which is their usual off-season price. Yup, it works well.

The instructions for the map update indicate that the engine MUST remain on for (up to) 90 minutes, idling. Really? Can I just hook it up to a charger and do the update in "accessory" mode? Is there anything else I can do while updating? Can it be updated over a long drive? I guess I can wait till a hot day to just sit in it and run the A/C.

To be fair, the instructions actually state that you may turn the engine off after any single disc has been ejected, although I don't know if starting over will be required.

Aw, crap! I just realized... How much gas will this use?!? This update is going to cost a fortune!

If it's like most Nissan navi updates you can do it with a charger attached. Key-on-engine-off (Ignition position, not Accessory) and turn on the Hazard flashers to prevent the BCM from going to sleep.

^^ this.

I just did mine on a longer road trip hah. Ended up having to do the last 10 minutes at a Red Robin though. That's before I went with the VLine from GROM Audio which gives me Google/Waze Maps.

Can you use the factory GPS antenna with the vline? From the install documentation it looks like you need to use an external antenna.

No, it has it's own GPS. Which is small and mounted on the right side of my dash. I don't even notice it anymore.

I believe the updates are married to your unit.

Just to be clear - The final map update, impacting the models listed in the header.
Will be discontinued?

YES. They're discontinued as the vehicles are to old to justify the expense of creating new map updates.

This was basically answered already. The short answer is no, as they're coded by VIN.

Your better off getting a unit like GROM Audio's VLINE or VLITE system and using Android Auto/Apple CarPlay with unlimited and free map updates thanks to Waze, Google Maps, Apple Maps, etc.
