As I understand it, these devices fool the ECU into thinking that the incoming air temp is lower than it really is, letting fuel metering, timing and various other paramaters take advantage of the additional oxygen that cooler air would contain. The dial just tells it how much lower.
"Would contain" being the key word. I image that the ECU getting the lower temp signal might not make an adjustment to counteract the signal. Otherwise, if it did compensate, I would think that legitimately cold temps would eventually make for decreasing performance.
I'm interested in someone's report on this
The only thig I'd be concerned about is unburned fuel washing the piston walls of the oil that keeps them healthy, contaminating the oil with fuel, dumping fuel into the cat, ruining O2 sensors and increased exhaust temps.
I suppose if you just used for certain "events" it would be less of a concern...
