Hello

I have an M37S and when I push the button for the rear sunshade, it goes up and stops in the middle of the rear window. When I push the button again, then it goes down and so on. It doesn't go all the way up. It doesn't sound broken or anything it just stops in the middle.

Any ideas?

I quickly looked over the factory repair manual and did not see any procedures or instructions for this type of issue. They basically say if it does not go up replace it. They do say this:
When rear sunshade reaches fully open or closed position or its operation is interrupted by an obstacle, rear sunshade control unit detects overload of rear sunshade motor, interrupts power supply, and stops the operation.
-
This tells me there are no additional sensors limiting it, just the controller and motor running the show.

I don't have the sunshade on my car so I cant make any experience based suggestions but have you checked to see if there is any damage or debris on the scissor hinge? Or tried "assisting" it with raising up past the sticking point? Take my advise at your own risk of course. :chuckle:

I have one in my car, I would imagine you would need to remove the back seat and rear deck to take measurements and see if there is anything blocking it in any way.

Good luck

I just took a squinz at my shade. After scratching my head a bit, I came up with the following:
obviously, check for anything that may be in the way of the side slots
maybe add a smidge of silicon lube to the side arm hinges that move while the shade goes up and down
perhaps have someone in the rear gently pull upwards while you push the UP button

Hope this helps.

PSA for anyone with a broken sunshade…these sunshade modules pop up from time to time on eBay for a (relative) song. Look for the updated part (97580-1MB0C rather than 1MB0A or 0B) and grab the newest one you can find - each module has a sticker on it clearly showing the manufacturing date, so if the seller does a basic job of taking pics it’s easy to tell.

I snagged an 0C variant from a salvaged 2016 Q70 for $150 shipped and finally fixed my 2011’s broken shade (which was stuck in the up position since 2016). Note that you do have to tear apart the entire rear interior to change it (seats, sill trim, window trim…everything).
