There might be a small, slim, tiny chance that I could be getting an Infiniti J30. I believe it is a 95 but I'll probably find out tomorrow what year it exactly is. Is there anything I should check for when looking at it? Any common problems in these things?

Also, what kind of mods are available for these thing besides the basics like intake and exhaust? Anything worth while in the aftermarket department for these? My guess would be no but I figured I'd ask.

I'm sure if I did get it and kept it for a long time it would eventually have a DETT transmission and a VG30DET in the engine bay. Pretty sure those will fit in there. I know in Japan it had a VG30DET but was auto. I heard that the engine wouldn't fit in a USDM J30 since they are left hand drive but I'll have to look into that some more.

Thanks for your guys' help in advance!

Wow.. Nice ride.. Just checked it out on cardomain..

If you get a J, I can definetely see you doing the Swap..

There really arn't much mods for the J.. if you want the power, do the turbo engine swap.. It's been done, and it's wicked :)

I just got done bashing the hell out of an LS, it's nice to see a real car again..

Great job on your maxima.. Very unique

J30s are solid cars... Nothing in paticular known to go wrong.. See if it's had the timing chains replaced... See how the transmission feels when shifted. Just the basic stuff should apply... The synthetic leather door panels are known to crack/fade prematurely...

The J30 has no timing chains, it has a timing belt...MUCH cheaper to replace.

I had a 95 J30 and liked it. The 95 has a teflon belt and that's better than previous years. I've noticed that the window regulators seem to go out on J30s and the sunroof has problems quite frequently.

There also seems to be a consistent wear pattern on the doors. It appears that elbows rest there and it wears out easily or something. I saw that on lots of Js.

I never had any trouble out of my J other than that. Great car. I'm thinking about getting another one.

Ahh yes, I forgot that the DE still has a timing belt. No problems though, I'm used to those. I also forgot that my friend has a DET auto transmission just laying in his garage. We bought our engines, the VG30ET and VG30DET, from the same guy and he just tossed in the transmission with the purchase since he had no use for it however my friend wanted to go with a 5 speed and got a hell of a deal on a TT 5-speed. He's putting that stuff in a Datsun 280Z. Its going to be sweet when its finished. I'm sure he'd let me have if I ever did have transmission trouble.

They definitely seem like nice cars and I bet they are real fun when hopped up (major sleeper) which is what I'm doing with my Maxima as well. Btw, thanks for the compliments on the Maxima! They are much appreciated.

Well... it definitely seems like a nice car. I think I'll go check it out today and see how it feels. Is 3000 for a 95 a reasonable price? The guy said there is nothing wrong with it minus having a flat tire. I'm not sure what kind of mileage it has though. I'll find that out today.

Wish I could find one for $3000. The Black Book Value is $5300 for clean condition, $4200 for average condition, and $3000 for rough condition.

It's fun to drive being a peppy V6 and rear wheel drive.

Anyone ever tried true duals on one of these? I think it might sound pretty cool with some headers and a true dual exhaust setup with maybe some Magnaflow mufflers. I wish I could do it on my Maxima but it had a y-pipe for one since its fwd but now I have the turbo setup which would make it even harder. Seems like it would sound cool but I'm not sure. I can't remember if I've ever heard any Z's with the dual setup or not.

I just got my '95 J30 and love it (hence the nick!). Mine's in avg condition and I picked it up for $3300. Add another $600 for the timing belt and water pump replacement (it's got 200K miles) and I'm still under $4K. Sure, I have a growing to-do list, but most of that is stuff I want to to to get the car back into pristine condition. If the one you're looking at is really in good condition, you'll be getting a great deal at $3K.

Yes, the J30 is a true dual exhaust (stainless steel, no less!). And it's also the easiest car I've had to work on in a long time. I'm just sorry I only 'discovered' it now, as the used one's are getting up in miles and I may not find another one when I need it. Guess that means it will be time to move up into a Q... :D

Good Luck,Bob

I checked out the car today and the outside is in pretty good shape. The rear interior looks pretty good however up front looks pretty bad. Worn leather, possible cigarette burns, holes in the lower pillars (how that happened i don't know), and other minor blemishes. Not sure if its worth it due to that but I'll ask to get inside the car probably tomorrow since I got over there a bit late. It may not be worth 3000 dollars but I'll find out when I actually get to drive it and whatnot.
