Regarding the BOSE problem I would suggest:
1) Get a used but newer version of BOSE head unit from eBay or somewhere else. The newer head units do not break easily.Recommended Part number:PN-2121PN-2261DPN-2261FPN-2261K
3) Get a level converter to interface the new BOSE head unit and your existing speakers. This is a MUST as the speakers on 93 J30 only take low level (line level) output from the head unit and the newer BOSE head units provide high (speaker level) outputs.Recommended Part number:SCOSCHE OEA4 OEM AMP INTERFACE 80Wx4 OEM Factory Amplifier Adapter
3) Get all required harness to interface with the newer BOSE head unit and your 93J.Recommended Part number:SCOSCHE NN03RB Reverse Wiring Harness For 1995 & up NissanSCOSCHE NN02B Wiring Harness for 1982-1994 Nissan
The reason you want to keep BOSE system and use a newer BOSE head unit is that:1) Although BOSE system does not have huge bass, it is a unit that provides clear, true and crispy but not overstated audio.2) The BOSE speakers work best with BOSE head unit.
The down side of the aproach above is that:1) Complexity2) Consider this: The audio signal is first amplified by the newer BOSE, then steped down by the level converter and finally amplified again by the amplifier built-in the speakers. Each stage in the process introduces harmonic distortion. The good things is that human ears are not that sensitive to the distortion but if you hook up the audio signal to a test equiment, you will see the difference.
