Infiniti, fresh from displaying the Emerg-E Concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, revealed that Infiniti is planning towards making their car look thinner and lighter.
“We want to look leaner, more athletic,” said Shiro Nakamura. “I’m happy with our designs today; Infiniti has a very distinctive look now, in the front grille and in the shape of the body. But I’d like to make it a little younger and more athletic, and thin it down.”
The Japanese automakers are very well known for their artistic and engineering designs. In years, it has only evolved in different ways. Nakamura specified that he visualizes creating his future vehicles with designs which are youthful and fuel efficient. He believes that the future designs will enable to help Infiniti communicate fuel efficiency by aesthetic design also.
The Emerg-E concept was introduced is a perfect example of “architectural departure” for Infiniti, according to Mr. Nakumura. The Emerg-E concept is the first mid-engine sports car the brand has ever produced. Executed by one of Nakamura’s North American stylists, Randy Rodriguez, the Emerg-E is a supercar which blends performance with functionality as a true electric car. It is designed to run 30 miles on pure electric power, yet sprint from 0 to 60 in four seconds. The sides of the body are tucked in, which accentuates the muscular stance of the rear quarters.
“The next G will see a similar direction,” Nakamura said. “We avoided making it a wedge shape, which is typical of mid-engine cars. We don’t want a wedge shape for Infiniti.”
So, the next-generation G Coupe should include styling cues from the Emerg-E concept, which should excite fans of the brand.
