In late 2005 I started conducting reliability research. I'm reporting absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so it's possible to provide reliability information on new models like the 2008 G37 very quickly--if enough owners sign up to help out. The sooner enough owners of the 2008 get involved, the sooner others considering the car will have some reliability information to factor into their decision.

With the help of NICOClub, for which I am very grateful, TrueDelta has been able to provide quick results for some other new Nissan and Infiniti models. Hopefully we can do the same for the 2008 G.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results for free.

Going to need more participants for initial results in February. Updated results on the 2007 G35 in a few weeks.

Easily done, just shoot me an email.

Right now I'm focusing on getting as many 2008s into the February results as possible. I want the G to be one of them, but this is going to require more participants. 11 so far.

Make that 18. So the odds of February results are getting better. 40+ might do it...

And now 26. Looking good, but still need more.

And now 32. Might even have a result without an asterisk in Feburary, if this keeps up. Need 25 responses and 75 months of data for that. It's going to be tight, so every single participant really helps.

47 now--most of any fall intro 2008!

In other words, looking good for results in February. But of course more would be even better...

So if you haven't signed up to participate yet, please consider doing so.

51 owners have signed up so far.

However, only 21 of these have responded to the survey, for a total of 35 months of data. I only show a result at all if there are at least 45 months of data, and asterisk this result unless there are at least 75 months of data.

At this point, there's virtually no chance of a result without an asterisk. I think most people simply took delivery too recently.

But there could well be an asterisked result. Just need at least ten more months of data (and the more, the better).

A follow-up email with links to the survey goes out tomorrow. If you've already signed up, please respond to it. If you haven't yet signed up, please consider doing so.

Thanks to excellent participation by 2008 G35 and G37 owners, there will be a result in a couple of weeks. But it will be asterisked for insufficient sample size unless nine more owners participate.

If you've signed up but haven't yet responded to the survey, please do so. You can only access the survey by clicking on links in the emails I send out. If you haven't yet signed up, I hope you'll consider doing so. The larger the sample size, the more solid the results.

The result will be publicly released on Wednesday--with NO ASTERISK! Great job, guys. The G will be one of only three 2008s with a full result this month. Quite an achievement, to have reliability info so soon after intro, and I have NICO to thank for it.

The next result after that will be in May.

I haven't checked yet, but most likely I don't have enough cars to report results separately for the sedan and coupe, which I'd have to do if a particular problem was limited to one or the other (e.g. if a problem was engine-related).

So more participants would still be very helpful.

That May update is fast approaching. As always, additional participants would be helpful.

Latest results posted here:

TrueDelta Vehicle Reliability Survey results

Most years of the first-gen G35 have repair rates near the average.

The 2007 sedan has a worse than average repair rate, while the 2008 G35 and G37 are doing better than average--a large improvement from the 2007.

Nothing serious with the 2007--just some very common minor issues like sunroof trim and seat heaters.

Members here have made these results possible. But additional participants are always helpful, so if you haven't been participating I hope you'll consider doing so.
