Alright, so my lovely G37xS had some sore of a metal like rattle and brought it to the dealer yesterday. Turns out the starter needs to be replaced.

I was given a G25x (with the 2.5 V6) with Sunroof as the loaner car (125 miles on it). So what the heck, I may as well give everyone a mini review of the newest member of the "G" series.

The first thing I noticed is the front and rear fascia of the car. My G37 had the sport package........on the G25, the Sport, Navigation, and Technology packages are not available. Something to certainly keep in mind when shopping. I hopped in and started the car up, and immediately I noticed this one did not sound as tough as the 3.7. I will say it still sounded tough, just not nearly as "throaty" as the 3.7. Other thing I noticed is the stereo does not sound nearly as nice as the Bose premium sounds system. Again, no option to upgrade.

Now, for the drive, again, it is was very evident I was not driving a 3.7, not nearly as much torque or "get up and go". With that being said, the engine is quite impressive for being a 2.5L V6. It did have very good pick up, and being mated to the 7spd automatic, it was seriously silky smooth shifting. I was quite shocked by how crisp and smooth this powertrain combo felt. Very strong acceleration, and good passing power, certainly more then enough for the average Joe (I am not the average Joe though, I am a power and speed freak..........LOL).

For me, I really missed the Sport Package features that I have on my G37. I like the extra seat bolstering, the unique sills on the vehicle, the tighter suspension. Some other features missing, Navigation, Premium Stereo (the base radio I think really stinks), memory feature (lets face it, my wife and I are totally different sizes).

The shocker for me is the gas mileage. Now before I go any further, keep in mind this car only had 125 miles on it, and I know when we first got our G37 the gas mileage was terrible during the break-in period. I was getting about 28mpg on the highway with the G25, but in the city I was dropping down to the mid teens. Overall so far I am getting around 18mpg, yeah, terrible for a small "supposedly economical" V6. Again, the gas mileage should greatly improve. I get around 23mpg with our G37 and I drive with a bit of a heavy foot.

So, to sum things up, this is a great car, especially if you are looking for an economical way to get into an Infiniti. Same build quality, and lot of the same features, just with a smaller engine and hopefully better fuel economy. Here is some food for thought..............I priced out a Nissan Maxima, and a fully loaded Maxima is $1000-$2000 more then this G25. You would get a lot more features, and a bigger engine of course mated to a proven reliable CVT that gets pretty good gas mileage. By the time you factor in a better rebate and discounts on the Maxima over the Infiniti, you should be able to get that fully loaded Maxima for the same price as this G25. Which means besides the bigger engine, you would have all the cool tech features, a heated steering wheel, Navigation, Memory Seats, Premium Sound system, and more all for the same price. I would totally go for the Maxima in this case, but that is just me. It really comes down to what you want in a car.

If you read a few of the reviews done by magazines, TV shows, etc. they echo a lot of your findings.

First, the "economical" 2.5L V6 is rated at a whopping 1 mpg more than the 3.7. Big turnoff #1
Second, the price difference between the "economical" V6 vs the 3.7L is very very small, I think within 2K or so. Considering the 3.7L also allows you to get all the option packages you want, its turnoff #2.

My parents started looking at a G when they went with me to pick up mine. My dad said he didnt need the 3.7L, went over and looked at the 2.5 and the first thing he said was for the price difference he would buy the 3.7L.

A 2.5L engine is not justifiable for the amount of money that Infiniti is charging. They need to realize that people want an entry-level vehicle at the proper price. French idiots.

i guess Infiniti wanted to compete with the bmw 325i... seems like a waste to me... you just get the infiniti g37 look and build but nothing else, might as well get a maxima for the same price. Infiniti has finally got into the "brand image" market where people will pay to just have the infinit badge on a car with minimal features, just like the people who buy a bmw 325i :yesnod But Hey if they going to buy it, then sell it.
