Hello all, I am new here have been looking at the forum topics for a few days now.

I have a 1995 Infiniti G20 manual 5 speed. The fifth gear syncro is gone and for the past week I have been living with only 4 gears.

What I was wondering was is there a 6 speed out there that I could do a swap with and have little to no modification work. If not that's fine I'll just rebuild the 5 speed but if I could get a 6th gear and better highway fuel mileage that would be great.

Or even if I could get a taller 5th gear to replace the stock so that my RPM's would be around 2500rpm instead of 3500rpm at 80mph, anything that could raise my MPG on the highway and lower my RPM would be great.

Any suggests from anyone would be well appreciated. Thank you for your interest and help in resolving this issue.

Sorry, but the G trans is just about the best bet for 5 speed transmissions. You can do a Spec-V 6spd swap, but that's awfully "involved" for a transmission swap. A bellhousing, a specialty flywheel (S15, I believe), and a hydraulic clutch conversion are just the start of the list.

Mazworx, amongst others, sells kits that can get you started. Prepare for junkyard shenanigans, though.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid of something like that. I probably will just stick with the 5 speed but I would also like to know if it would be possible to swap out the 5th gear for a taller one. If anyone has any info on this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again.

There's a spreadsheet floating around on the internet comparing the gear ratios (including the final drive ratios) for every FWD SR box ever made... google search for it, or go hoon about in the FAQ sections on the sr20 "dash" forums - there's quite a bit of research into gearboxes for those looking for taller gears, stronger 'boxes, etc., for those that're building the bigger-turbo'd FWD SRs.

In the end, I'm betting you'll find it's not really worth the trouble; find a P11 gearbox and call it a day. Good luck.
